EXT. PRAIRIE - DAY - FANTASY SEQUENCE
A MYSTERIOUS RIDER rides under the burning sun while a
musical theme worthy of Ennio Morricone plays.
We get only glimpses of the Rider. Thin body. Black boots.
Long trenchcoat a la Once Upon a Time in the West. Brown,
decided eyes.
EXT. TOWN - DAY - FANTASY SEQUENCE
The Rider rides through the main street, catching some eyes.
A GIRL smiles, amazed.
The Rider gives her a nod and arrives at... a BAR.
INT. BAR - DAY - FANTASY SEQUENCE
The Rider enters. The place is full. The Rider's eyes scan
the place and search for...
...a GROUP OF MEN playing poker at a table. They drink,
curse, grab SOME WAITRESS' ASS. Despicable men. Bandits.
The Rider walks towards them. Every step creates silence
around such an intimidating figure.
The Rider arrives at the table and stands next to its LEADER
(40s, chubby jerk).
RIDER
Dave Cavanaugh?
The Rider's voice isn't quite manly.
The Bandits break their game to look at the Rider.
DAVE CAVANAUGH
Who wants to know?
The Rider takes a folded piece of paper and displays it over
the table. Is a WANTED POSTER for Dave Cavanaugh and his
gang. $5,000 reward.
The men exchange looks and try to draw their guns, but...
...BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG! Their guns fly away from
their hands and look at the Rider. He is a faster shooter.
...or should we say "she"?
We finally get a look at our mysterious Rider - a WOMAN. A
young woman. Barely a woman.
This girl is no older than 20. Redhair. Freckled. It'd be
difficult to see her as a danger, but since we are in her
fantasy, she has all the vibe a female Clint Eastwood could
have. This is MARY MacLAINE and as she smiles, confident...

INT. TRAIN - DAY
...the fantasy is over.
Now we get an image of who Mary MacLaine is in real life. Her
youthful and joyful face is lost in the pages of a small book
she reads - LEGENDS OF THE WEST.
As if this wasn't enough to erase the image of the badass
girl from the previous scene, the camera reveals her outfit -
black robe, rosary beads, yes... she's a nun.
And she is so lost in her reading that she doesn't hear-
TICKET COLLECTOR (O.S.)
Miss? Sister?
Sister Mary finally reacts and looks at the TICKET COLLECTOR
waiting to collect her ticket.
SISTER MARY
Oh! Yes! Of course!
She searches for her ticket inside her sleeve and hands it to
him. He punches it. As he is about to go...
SISTER MARY
Excuse me, sir, could you tell me how
long it is to Santa Cecilia?
TICKET COLLECTOR
We should get there within minutes,
Sister.
Sister Mary grants him a smile and a nod - thanks.
The ticket collector leaves. Sister Mary notices the eyes of
her traveling companions - AN OLD FARMER COUPLE with a LITTLE
PIG on the man's lap.
Sister Mary gives them a nod and a smile. She closes her
book... and hides it inside a Bible.
Sister Mary looks out the window and sees the desolate place

EXT. TRAIN STATION - DAY
A pathetic train station in what seems to be the middle of
nowhere. Small. Partially destroyed. Sister Mary and the Old
Farmer Couple walk down from the train.
Sister Mary sees them go along with their pig with a
childlike curiosity until they pass by a pair of BLACK ROBES.
These belong to MOTHER CARMEN (40s, dignified, her image
demands respect, yet there is some tenderness in her face)
and SISTER PENELOPE (barely an adult, petite, thin, fragile,
a shadow next to the Mother).
Sister Mary's curiosity disappears and is replaced by some
anxiety that tenses her neck and makes her gulp as Mother
Carmen and Sister Penelope walk to her.
MOTHER CARMEN
Sister Mary?
Forcing a smile, Sister Mary nods her head.
SISTER MARY
That's me. Yes. Sister Mary MacClaine.
You are...?
MOTHER CARMEN
Mother Carmen and Sister Penelope,
from the Santa Cecilia Church. Sister
Penelope, help Sister Mary with her
luggage.
Sister Penelope takes a nervous step closer to Sister Mary,
but she hides her small bag behind her.
SISTER MARY
Oh, no. It's not necessary.
Sister Penelope hides her hands behind her, nervous.
MOTHER CARMEN
Over here, please...
Mother Carmen leads them to the other side of the station as
the train leaves. Sister Mary sighs, resigned.
MOTHER CARMEN
We're so happy you've finally arrived.
You have no idea how long we have been
waiting for another Sister among us.
SISTER PENELOPE
Years.
SISTER MARY
Really?
SISTER PENELOPE
No one seems to want to come this way.
The town appears in front of them - barely a town, more a
random group of buildings with some people around them.
Many of them are filled with posters - BRANDON BAXTER FOR
MAYOR. YOUR BEST OPTION TO END INSECURITY.
SISTER MARY
Really? I can't figure out why.
MOTHER CARMEN
Sister Penelope, please.
Sister Penelope lowers her head, shy.
MOTHER CARMEN
It's true. Not many people interested
in coming to a place like this. Not
even other Sisters. They believe
there's not much to do around here,
but I wonder, how does anyone expect
to make a place interesting and fill
it with life if no one dares to plant
the first seed to see it grow?
They pass next to a MAN LEANING AGAINST A POST. He spits as
they pass him by.
SISTER MARY
...Certainly.
They arrive at a WAGON WITH TWO MULES.
Mother Carmen takes the reins. The Sisters sit next to her.
MOTHER CARMEN
Don't get the wrong idea, Sister Mary.
There's lots of work to do here and
you'll soon see that it's impossible
to get bored, despite the ideas you
might have the first time you arrive
at our town.
SISTER PENELOPE
(with a smile)
You arrived on a good day. Today we
make butter.
Sister Mary forces herself to share the smile.
MOTHER CARMEN
Ah, yes. You've made a great decision
coming here, Sister. Ah!
She hits the reins and the mules ride to the prairie. Sister
Mary looks back at the station and the "town."
SISTER MARY
(with a sigh)
Well, it wasn't really my decision...
EXT. PRAIRIE - DAY
The wagon rides through the prairie. Over them, VULTURES fly
in circles over a DEAD OX distracting Sister Mary.
EXT. HILLS - DAY
The wagon rides through the hills. Nothing around. Sister
Mary sighs again, getting tired of the place already.
EXT. RIVER - DAY
The wagon passes next to a river where a COWBOY fills his
canteen. His presence creates a smile in Sister Mary.
MOTHER CARMEN
Don't look at him, Sister Mary. There
are many dangerous men around here.
Sister Mary looks away and finds Sister Penelope staring at
her, with an excited smile.
INT. SISTERS' WAGON - DAY
Sister Mary rests her chin over her hand, bored, resigned. A
smile crosses Mother Carmen's lips.

EXT. SANTA CECILIA CHURCH - DAY
Much like everything we have seen so far, this is yet another
place that has seen much better days. The Santa Cecilia
Church is an old Spanish building surrounded by nothing more
than a couple of trees and a well.
FATHER DUPONT (50s, husky, bearded) comes from the Church,
smiling as he sees the wagon arriving.
SISTER PENELOPE
We're here! Come, Sister, come!
Sister Penelope jumps off the wagon and helps Sister Mary get
down as well.
FATHER DUPONT
It took you a while, Mother Carmen!
MOTHER CARMEN
Oh, you know how it is, Father. Slow
and steady wins the race.
They exchange a smile as Father DuPont helps her down from
the wagon.
Sister Mary gives her bag to Sister Penelope and... her book
of Legends of the West falls to the ground.
Sister Mary freezes for a moment, busted, and looks at Sister
Penelope, fearing she'll say something.
Sister Penelope looks away - she hasn't seen anything. Sister
Mary hurries herself to hide her book in her sleeve.
None of this has been seen by either Mother Carmen or Father
DuPont.
FATHER DUPONT
Ah! Sister Mary! Welcome!
FATHER DUPONT (CONT'D)
I'm Father DuPont, and this is our
Church and home-
(points at the way)
And His home, of course, haha.

FATHER DUPONT
I'm glad, I'm glad. Well, this is our

a big thing, but we're trying! We have
the hope that with one more Sister, we
can finally turn this place around.
Sister Mary looks at the painful religious figures.

Sister Penelope hurries to take out a bucket of water.
SISTER PENELOPE

SISTER MARY
I'm alright. Thank you.
Sister Penelope tries to put the bucket back in the well

Sister Penelope smiles, nervous and shy.
SISTER MARY

Father DuPont. What about the people?
Do we have a big congregation?
FATHER DUPONT
Oh, well, not as big as we would like,
but-
Sister Penelope is distracted by the presence of a...
SISTER PENELOPE
Rider!
Everyone looks to the distant hills where a RIDER watches in
their direction. He is not alone. FOUR MORE RIDERS appear
next to him. A gang.
The smiles disappear from everyone's faces. Sister Mary looks
at her companions, curious.
FATHER DUPONT
Get inside, Sisters. Please.
Mother Carmen leads the Sisters to the Church.
SISTER MARY
Why? What's going on?
MOTHER CARMEN
Sister Mary, please...
Sister Mary asks no more questions, just following Mother
Carmen alongside a hurried Sister Penelope.
Father DuPont walks to the prairie... and the Riders ride to

Harrison Lee doesn't take the joke. Points at the Church.

BRANDON BAXTER
And I promise you that, if you elect
me, I'll reduce crime to zero! Santa
Cecilia will be the most peaceful town
in all the region and the industry
will come!
The crowd applauds, actually convinced of what he is
saying... except for a MAN resting next to a horse trough.
Dressed in a black suit like the ones that Lee Van Cleef used
to wear and with his face half covered by a hat, the Man
smiles to himself, amused by what he hears, and shakes his
head - JEBEDIAH KINSKI (20s, cool, calm, collected).
He looks up to Brandon Baxter boasting about up himself.
JEBEDIAH
When will people learn that every

A man with a pink shirt and brown jacket arrives next to him

They've been doing some nasty things.
SISTER MARY
Did they rape livestock?
Sheriff Wilbur is taken aback, confused.
SHERIFF WILBUR
...I really wouldn't know, Sister. But
they're dangerous anyway, and I assure
you that I'm working on the case. It's

They look at GOOD OL' ARNIE - an elderly deputy with a beard
that covers half of his body, sleeping somewhere behind.
SHERIFF WILBUR
Well, he is no longer in condition to
conduct such an enterprise like this.
Therefore, I'd recommend the option to
move to town while all of this calms
down. I know it's not ideal, but...
FATHER DUPONT
I'm afraid that's not possible,
Sheriff. We have to look out for the
house of the Lord.
SHERIFF WILBUR
And I get that, I really do, but, to
be honest, it's dangerous for you and
the Sisters to stay there.
Sister Mary purses her lips, thinking.
SISTER MARY
And what if you came to the church?
Wouldn't that help you to get them?
Sheriff Wilbur thinks about it for a moment.
SHERIFF WILBUR
It could, yes, in theory. But, again,
I'm alone in here and someone has to
take care of the town; and if you
allow me to say it, before looking out
for the house of the Lord, I think
it'd be wise to look out for the
people that live in it... and that'd
be so much easier with you in here.
Think about it, Father DuPont.
Father DuPont sighs, not happy with the resolution.

No! That's not the case! If you kill
someone and they catch us, they'll
hang us!
SERGIO
Better to die with your head high than
hiding between the legs.
JEBEDIAH
Well, that would depend on whose legs
we are talking about, don't you think?
Sergio lets out a dirty laugh as he shoots again.
JEBEDIAH
The plan didn't mention any shooting.
We were just supposed to take the
money and leave without a fuss.
SERGIO
Well, the fuss is made, and unless you
want to stay on it, I suggest you join
it and shoot, carnal.
Jebediah looks around, thinking. A shot hits the horse
trough, splashing water over the brothers.
JEBEDIAH
Damn it! I already bathed this week!
Jebediah shakes his hat and... notices the eyes of the ever-
curious Sister Mary on them. An idea. Snaps his fingers.
JEBEDIAH
I got it! Keep the Sheriff busy!
SERGIO
¿Qué mierda crees que estoy haciendo?
JEBEDIAH
Forgive me, Father, for I'm about to
sin...
As Sergio and Sheriff Wilbur exchange shots, Jebediah takes a
deep breath and...
...runs towards Sister Mary, pulling her by the arm.
JEBEDIAH
You come with me, Sister...
SISTER MARY
No, no, no!
FATHER DUPONT
Sister! What are you doing!?
Jebediah points his gun at Father DuPont's face.
JEBEDIAH
Sorry, Father, but this is a matter of
life or death...
He pulls the Sister and points his gun at her head.
JEBEDIAH
Hey, Sheriff! Stop shooting or you'll
have Holy blood on your hands!
ACROSS THE STREET
Sheriff Wilbur sees Jebediah holding Sister Mary hostage. She
resists, trying to release herself, but Jebediah holds her
still, pressing her against himself.
SHERIFF WILBUR
Good gracious! Sister!
Sheriff Wilbur stops shooting.
OUTSIDE THE BANK
Sergio himself can't believe what he is seeing.
SERGIO
What the hell are you doing?
JEBEDIAH
Getting us out of this without getting
anyone hurt. Now shut it.
(to Sheriff Wilbur)
Did you hear me, Sheriff!? You let us
go, and the good Sister will return to
do the Good Lord's work! Come after
us, and you'll take Him one of his
best workers!
SISTER MARY
You animal!
JEBEDIAH
Quiet, Sister, quiet.
(to Sheriff Wilbur)
So!? What is it going to be, Sheriff!?
Both Father DuPont and Sergio look at Jebediah, then at
Sheriff Wilbur, waiting for his response.
Sheriff Wilbur thinks for a moment. Can't fight. Tosses his
rifle away and raises his hands. So does Good Ol' Arnie.
SHERIFF WILBUR
Alright, Jebediah! You win! Go, but
leave the Sister!
JEBEDIAH
I'll leave her when I think it's wise!
Sergio, move on! Without shooting!
Sergio nods his head and gets out from his hideout, joining
his brother on their way to their horses.
Father DuPont tries to go after them.
FATHER DUPONT
Sister Mary!
SISTER MARY
Father DuPont!
JEBEDIAH
Get back! Get back!
The brothers arrive at their horses... and Jebediah takes
Sister Mary along with him.
JEBEDIAH
Well done, Sister. You just saved some
innocent lives because of this.
SISTER MARY
You have no shame, you animal!
Jebediah smirks and hits the reins. The two brothers ride
fast, and Sister Mary shares one final look with Father
DuPont.

Political Tension and Doubt
EXT. SHERIFF STATION - DAY
People are gathered around, talking about what just happened.
Baxter and his bodyguard make their way among the crowd.
BODYGUARD MARIN
Make way for Mr. Baxter, please!
INT. SHERIFF STATION - DAY
Brandon Baxter enters with Bodyguard Marin. The anxious
Father DuPont shakes his head, worried.
BRANDON BAXTER
Sheriff Wilbur, what happened?
SHERIFF WILBUR
The Almada-Kinski Brothers, Mr.
Baxter. They kidnapped a nun.
BRANDON BAXTER
They what!?
FATHER DUPONT
I can't believe it! Who can do such a
thing!? The poor Sister!
SHERIFF WILBUR
Don't you worry, Father. We'll find
her and bring her as soon as possible,
alright? She'll be okay.
BODYGUARD MARIN
How can you know? If these bastard men
are wild enough to kidnap a nun, who
knows what else they could do to her?
Father DuPont looks at Bodyguard Marin with even more fear.
BRANDON BAXTER
Mr. Marin, please. You're making the
Father nervous. Someone bring him a
glass of Scotch, please!
Good Ol' Arnie hands Father DuPont a glass of whisky.
FATHER DUPONT
Oh, no, no. I can't-
GOOD OL' ARNIE
Do it, Father. It'll help you.
Father DuPont is convinced. Drinks it up.
BODYGUARD MARIN
This wouldn't happen if Mr. Baxter was
elected...
BRANDON BAXTER
Mr. Marin, please, this is no time for
political promotion-
BODYGUARD MARIN
But is true, sir. With more qualified
men guarding town, things like this
wouldn't happen...
He looks at Sheriff Wilbur, defying.
GOOD OL' ARNIE
How dare you!?
Sheriff Wilbur doesn't care about the attack.
SHERIFF WILBUR
Well, that sounds alright. I hope that
Mr. Baxter gets elected, then. In the
meantime, we'll have to solve this.
Father DuPont, don't you worry. We'll
find the Sister safe and sound. I
promise.
Father DuPont looks at him with some hope.
BRANDON BAXTER
The Sheriff is absolutely right.
That's what matters right now and I'll
do my part myself by sending Mr. Marin
along with your search party, Sheriff.
BODYGUARD MARIN
Are you sure about this, Mr. Baxter?
BRANDON BAXTER
Of course! I can take care of myself.
Please, just help find the Sister and
bring her safe, alright, Father?
FATHER DUPONT
Yes... Yes, of course. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Brandon Baxter shows a wide smile.
BRANDON BAXTER
That's what we're here for!
Sheriff Wilbur looks at Baxter and Marin with doubt.

Jebediah points at her face.
JEBEDIAH
Cool yourself, Sister. There's no

SISTER MARY
You already have what you want! What
do you want from me, now!?
Sergio looks at Jebediah, carrying the bags with money.
SERGIO
Yeah, what are we going to do with
her, Jeb?
Jebediah presses his lips, thinking - no idea.
JEBEDIAH
I don't know. We'll think of
something. But letting her go like
that ain't a good idea for anyone.
He spins his gun and puts it back in a holster. Offers Sister
Mary a canteen instead.
JEBEDIAH
Water?
She throws it away from his hand - she's ferocious.
SISTER MARY
I don't want your dirty water! I want
to leave!
Jebediah picks up the canteen. Cleans it from the dust.
JEBEDIAH
A simple "no" would have been enough.
Why the violence?
Takes a drink.
JEBEDIAH
We're going to let you go, don't you
worry, but we can't let you go just
like that. You might get lost and then
what? They'll blame us.
SISTER MARY
I'm not going to get lost!
JEBEDIAH
Really? Do you know where we are?
Sister Mary keeps silent.
JEBEDIAH
So I thought. You'll have to wait.
SISTER MARY
For how long?
JEBEDIAH
I don't know. A day or two. I'm sure
that the good Sheriff will be
searching for us, so it ain't smart
going out right now.
SISTER MARY
I can't stay here for a day or two.
The Sisters need me.
JEBEDIAH
Eh, I'm sure they can manage without
you for a few days. Calm yourself,
Sister. Enjoy the cool. Sergio.
Sergio sits in front of him, giving him one of the bags. His
eyes keep looking back at the Sister, uneasy.
JEBEDIAH
So, how did we do?
SERGIO
I don't like this, carnal. Kidnapping
a Sister is a deadly sin.
JEBEDIAH
So what? You've killed men...
Sister Mary looks at Sergio with fear.
SERGIO
Yeah, but those assholes had it
coming. A Sister... ain't right.
JEBEDIAH
We're not going to kill nor do
anything to her. I even offered water
and she threw it away. She'll be
alright. Now... the money!
Jebediah rubs his hand before opening the bags with their
bounty and the two brothers take out some wads of money.
Sister Mary looks at them, curious. For a moment, her fear
seems to disappear, replaced by a genuine intrigue - this is
the kind of thing she reads about.
Jebediah finishes counting the money, disappointed.
JEBEDIAH
Fifteen hundred. Not much, is it?
SERGIO
It's a small town, carnal. What did
you expect?
Jebediah rubs his face, thinking.
JEBEDIAH
Maybe the next month they have more.
SERGIO
Maybe...
SISTER MARY
Isn't that enough for you? You need
more? How greedy can you be?
The brothers look back at her.
JEBEDIAH
What was that thing Jesus said? "You
shall not judge"?
SISTER MARY
He also said, "You shall not steal".
SERGIO
That was Moses, not Jesus. He wrote
the Ten Commandments.
Sister Mary is taken aback, surprised by such a correction,
while a smiling Jebediah points at his brother, cocky.
JEBEDIAH
How about that, Sis? Anyway, whoever
said that clearly didn't know banks.
SISTER MARY
(skeptical)
Right. You steal from the bank because
the bank steals from the town. Is that
so? You are Robin Hood?
The brothers look at each other, confused - who?
JEBEDIAH
No. We are the Almada-Kinski brothers.
But, yes, that's what we do. Anyway,
that's none of your business. Your
business is to be a good hostage,
alright?
Sister Mary crosses her arms, rebellious.
SISTER MARY
Well, I'm sorry, but I can't be that.
You won't tell me what to do and...
Jebediah rolls his eyes and gets up, getting a rope.
SISTER MARY
Wait, what are you doing? No!
Jebediah pulls her hands to him to tie her up.
JEBEDIAH
If you're not going to behave like a
good hostage, we'll treat you like a
bad one.
SISTER MARY
No! No!
Sister Mary is anything but submissive. She fights back as
Jebediah tries to tie her up. Shakes, kicks... bites!
JEBEDIAH
Ah, goddamnit!
SERGIO
Don't say that!
JEBEDIAH
Could you leave the religious nonsense
for a moment and gag her!? She bites!
She does way more than that. Sister Mary kicks his crotch
with her knee and releases herself.
JEBEDIAH
Ah! Son of...!
Sister Mary isn't over. She takes Jebediah's gun and points
at the impressed Sergio before he does anything.
Sergio raises his hands... and Sister Mary grabs the money
bags to take them along with her.
JEBEDIAH
Whoa! Whoa! No! Wait!
She points at the brothers, clearly decided.
SISTER MARY
Stealing is a sin!
The two brothers step back. Sister Mary leaves.
JEBEDIAH
Goddamit! Couldn't you stop her!?
SERGIO
She's a nun!
Sergio helps Jebediah get on his feet.

Her smile disappears as she leaves the caves and sees her

She frowns, confused. What to do? The brothers appear.
JEBEDIAH
We told you! There's nowhere to go!
Sister Mary turns, pointing at them. They keep their hands

JEBEDIAH
You won't go anywhere like this. You

SISTER MARY
I do not!
A beat. She kind of does.
SISTER MARY
But... maybe I can turn in one of you.
The brothers share a look.
JEBEDIAH
That ain't happening, Sis. If you're

JEBEDIAH
What? No! We can't do that! We're bank
robbers! That's what we do! We don't

SISTER MARY
Stealing is wrong.
JEBEDIAH
Yes. We know. But, still. We need it.
What can you do?
She continues pointing at them. She's not easy to convince.
SERGIO
You know, carnal? It wasn't as much as
we thought it'd be. Maybe... Maybe we
can give it back, you know?
JEBEDIAH
What!?
Jebediah looks at his brother, concerned. Sergio gives him a
look - play along. Jebediah gets it.
JEBEDIAH
...Oh, yeah. Sure. Maybe we can.
SISTER MARY
I'm not stupid! I can see what you're
doing and it's not going to work!
The brothers break their visual communication.
SISTER MARY
You'll take me back tomorrow morning
and give back the money and I will not
turn you in to the Sheriff... alright?
The brothers nod their heads, resigned.
SISTER MARY
Good! Now, move. I'm hungry!
The brothers turn around and walk back to the cave while
Sister Mary keeps pointing at them.
JEBEDIAH
How did this happen? She's a nun!
SERGIO
She has God on her side...

The moon shines over the quiet caves. A small light shines

Let's clarify things...
INT. HIDEOUT CAVE - NIGHT
Sister Mary eats a plate of soup. Next to her is the gun and
the money bags. In front, the brothers.
SISTER MARY
You two are brothers, right? Then how
come you have different last names?
JEBEDIAH
That's none of your interest, Sis...
SERGIO
Different fathers, same mother.
JEBEDIAH
Why did you tell her?
SERGIO
She asked.
JEBEDIAH
So what!?
SERGIO
She's a nun. You have to be honest.
Jebediah shakes his head, disappointed. Sister Mary shows a
smile at their dynamic.
SISTER MARY
I see. So, how long have you been
living away from the path of the Lord?
JEBEDIAH
Again, none of your interest.
SERGIO
Him, ten years. Me, twelve.
JEBEDIAH
Sergio!
SERGIO
She's an agent of God! You don't lie
to an agent of God!
JEBEDIAH
I quite doubt that God wants to
interrogate us through a nun with a
gun...
SERGIO
The Lord has its ways...
Sister Mary chuckles.
JEBEDIAH
Any other questions, Sis? I swear, I
have never met a nun so curious about
the outlaw life.
SISTER MARY
There's a first time for everything.
JEBEDIAH
You can say that again!
Sister Mary presses her lips, thinking.
SISTER MARY
Does it hurt? To get shot?
JEBEDIAH
Like hell!
Sergio pushes him with his elbow - don't say that.
JEBEDIAH
Oh. Yeah. Sorry. It hurts like...
like... an archangel whip? I don't
know. I'm not religious.
SISTER MARY
You're not?
JEBEDIAH
Not really. I mean, I've never thought
too much about it. It's hard to do it
when you have to fight for your life
every day, you know? What am I saying?
You probably don't. You're a nun!
SISTER MARY
Actually, I do know what you mean.
Faith is difficult for some...
Her gaze gets lost in the void, thinking.
SISTER MARY
Anyway, I just wanted to understand
your...
JEBEDIAH
Sinful minds?
SISTER MARY
(cracking a laugh)
So to speak, yes.
SERGIO
It's not for pleasure. It's...
JEBEDIAH SERGIO
The need. Yeah.
Sister Mary looks at them for a moment. Their serious faces
are proof enough that they aren't lying.
SISTER MARY
I don't doubt it...
Silence. Jebediah looks at her, waiting for something more.
JEBEDIAH
Is that it? Won't you tell us that
there's a right path to follow and you
must follow it even if is hard?
SISTER MARY
Why would I do that? You won't change
your ways just because I tell you to,
will you?
JEBEDIAH
(with a laugh)
Nope. Probably not. But any other nun
would have pushed on her convictions.
SISTER MARY
I know, but, for me, there's no point.
I think that every son of God will
always have a mind of his own about
life, and there is no use in trying to
make him think differently.
JEBEDIAH
Whoa! You really aren't a typical nun,
are you?
Sister Mary shows a bittersweet smile.
SISTER MARY
I'll take that as a compliment.
JEBEDIAH
Take it as you like.
Sister Mary looks at the brothers for a moment, thinking.
SISTER MARY
I have a proposition for you...
JEBEDIAH
Yeah? What is it?
SISTER MARY
I won't turn you in... if you teach me
how to shoot.
The brothers share a surprised look.
JEBEDIAH SERGIO
You want to learn to shoot? Why?
SISTER MARY
I have my reasons. What do you say?
SERGIO
I thought you'd let us go if we let
you go with the money.
JEBEDIAH
Yeah! That was the agreement! And you
can't change it, Sis. That's a sin.
SISTER MARY SERGIO
That's not a sin. No, it's not.
JEBEDIAH
Well, sorry for not knowing what is it
and what isn't! But, anyway, that was
the agreement, Sis. You were going to
leave with the money and let us be.
SISTER MARY
Yeah, well... I'm changing it.
Jebediah crosses his arms.
JEBEDIAH
Well, ain't that pretty! A nun that
doesn't follow her word.
SERGIO
That's just wrong...
SISTER MARY
Well, what do you want, then?
JEBEDIAH
What do you think? The money!
SISTER MARY
I can't give it to you! It's stolen!
JEBEDIAH
Yes! The bank stole it from the people
and we're stealing it from it. We're
on the same side, Sis!
SISTER MARY
That's not true!
JEBEDIAH SERGIO
Yes, it is. Of course, it is. Ask.
Sister Mary sighs, stressed.
SISTER MARY
Agh! Fine! If you want the money, you
can keep it. But I'll tell the Sheriff
everything I know.
JEBEDIAH
Yeah, sure, that was never in doubt.
SISTER MARY
And you teach me how to shoot.
JEBEDIAH SERGIO
Of course. We'll be pleased, Sister.
SISTER MARY
Alright. We have an agreement, then.
Jebediah extends his hand to her. Sister Mary looks at it,
doubtful... and shakes it. An agreement.

Somewhere beyond the caves. The Almada-Kinski brothers teach

JEBEDIAH
Alright, shooting is really simple.
You just aim and squeeze the trigger.
Squeeze it, alright? Don't pull it.
SERGIO
Otherwise, you'll get a shit of a

Jebediah gives him a look - come on, don't say that.
SERGIO
What? I just said "shit."
SISTER MARY
Alright. Squeeze.
Sister Mary lets out a sigh. Aims and... shoots! Along with
the shot, she herself flies three feet away due to the kick.
SERGIO
Sister!
The brothers run to her aid. She has fallen on her back and
is full of dirt, but it's alright.
SISTER MARY
I'm alright! I'm alright!
They help her get on her feet. She looks at such a gesture
with surprise - they're actually helping.
Then she sees the rocks. One down.
SISTER MARY
Hey! I did it!
Jebediah looks at the missing rock with some surprise.
JEBEDIAH
Yeah, you did it... You did it.
SERGIO
I told you. She has God on her side.
JEBEDIAH
Sure, she does. Well, let's see if you
still have Him after a few more shots.
Sister Mary gets in position once again.
She tries a second, third, fourth, fifth time. The kick
affects her less and less, and she no longer flies away.
However, each one of the rocks is gunned down.
JEBEDIAH
Well, who would say it? The Sister
knows how to shoot.

We told you already. The need. We had

Sergio nods his head.
SISTER MARY
Well... there you go. Same reason.
SERGIO
How so?
SISTER MARY
Well, my father died when I was

mother wasn't so good at taking care
of the farm, so she had to sell it and
then got married again. And when that
happened, well, they sent me to a

JEBEDIAH
To protect you, I suppose.
SISTER MARY
From what? From the world? Look where

Her tone of voice seems to be trying to convince herself.
JEBEDIAH
...Right. And didn't you ever think

SISTER MARY
To do what? To find a man, marry, and
then wait until whatever nonsense

JEBEDIAH
Can I ask you something, Sis?
SISTER MARY
You may.
JEBEDIAH
Why did you want to learn to shoot? I
mean, have masses gotten that violent?
Sister Mary laughs.
SISTER MARY
They might be. There's a group of men
threatening our church.
JEBEDIAH
What? For real?
SISTER MARY
Yes. I don't know who they might be,
but... I fear they might do something
to us if we don't leave or fight back.
JEBEDIAH
Who in their right mind would do
anything against someone like you?
Sister Mary gives him a look - come on...
JEBEDIAH
I just kidnapped you so that sheriff
didn't kill me or Sergio, but that was
it. You were never in any harm.
Sister Mary keeps her eyes on him - doubtful...
JEBEDIAH
I'm serious! I don't like violence.
SISTER MARY
You're a bank robber...
JEBEDIAH
Out of need! What do you think we want
the money for, in the first place?
SISTER MARY
Hookers? Guns?
JEBEDIAH
(with a chuckle)
Besides that, what else? A farm.
SISTER MARY
A farm? You?
JEBEDIAH
Yes! You have the wrong idea of me,
Sis. I'm not a gunfighter. All I want
is to find some nice place to settle
down. Maybe with a wife. I don't know.
But it ain't cheap, Sis!
Sister Mary presses her lips, thinking about it.
SISTER MARY
It's a funny thing that leads a person
to wild actions, isn't it?
JEBEDIAH
It really is, Sis, it really is...
Sister Mary thinks for a moment more... then smiles.
SISTER MARY
You know? If I'm completely honest
with you...
JEBEDIAH
Yes?
SISTER MARY
I never felt I was in any harm.
Jebediah lets out a little laugh.
JEBEDIAH
No, I'm sure you didn't.
Silence. An enjoyable moment... that shouldn't be happening.
Sister Mary looks away.
SISTER MARY
So, anyway, these men... these men do
worry me. And I know killing is a sin,
but I'm sure the Lord will understand
if it's in defense of someone else.
JEBEDIAH
I quite get that feeling, Sis...
She draws a little smile and then...
JEBEDIAH
We're here!
The horse stops. Sister Mary looks ahead. Sure enough, down
the hill, there is the Santa Cecilia church.
Sister Mary forces a smile, not quite excited to be back.
SISTER MARY
So, we are...
Jebediah takes a look at the church.
JEBEDIAH
Don't get me wrong, Sis, but to be a
place devoted to God, it sure looks
forgotten by Him...
Sister Mary lets out a laugh.
SISTER MARY
It's our job to make Him remember it.
JEBEDIAH
It sure is. Anyway, I've done as
promised!
Jebediah helps her get down off the horse. Silence. No one
wants to say what is about to be said.
SISTER MARY
Well, I guess I better go now. Here...
She grants him the gun. He thinks for a moment.
JEBEDIAH
You know what? Why don't you keep it?
You might use it against those men...
SISTER MARY
Are you sure?
JEBEDIAH
Yes. Sergio has enough weaponry to
recreate El Alamo either way...
They share a laugh. Sister Mary contemplates the gun.
SISTER MARY
Well... thank you.
JEBEDIAH
Nothing to thank, Sis. See you around!
Jebediah tips his hat. Turns away and leaves. Sister Mary
sees him go with a bittersweet smile.
She sighs and walks towards the church, hiding the gun in her
sleeve.

SISTER PENELOPE
Did you run away?
SISTER MARY
No, no. They... They let me go.
FATHER DUPONT
Are they around?
SISTER MARY
They left me a few miles from here.
They were very kind, actually.
MOTHER CARMEN
Kind? Those bandits?
SISTER MARY
Yes. They just wanted me so they could
escape.
FATHER DUPONT
Do you know where they might be?
SISTER PENELOPE
The Sheriff is searching for them.
SISTER MARY
No... Not really.
SISTER PENELOPE
He thinks they might be the same men
that have been threatening us...
SISTER MARY
No, no. They're definitely not them.
MOTHER CARMEN
How can you be sure?
SISTER MARY
I just know. If you excuse me, I'd
like to rest a little. It's been a
very exhausting day.
FATHER DUPONT
Oh, of course, of course, we get it.
Go have some rest, Sister.

Were you scared?
Sister Penelope looks at Sister Mary from her bed.
SISTER MARY
...Not really.
SISTER PENELOPE
Did God give you calm?
SISTER MARY
Let's just say it gave me enough
confidence for such an experience.
Sister Penelope smiles.
SISTER PENELOPE
I understand. Sometimes He also gives
me the strength to ignore emotions I

Sister Mary just looks at her, curious.
SISTER PENELOPE
I'm glad He helped you.
SISTER MARY
Yes... me too.
Her eyes get lost in the void again.
SISTER PENELOPE
I have something for you, by the way.
Sister Penelope takes out her small box from under her bed

Sister Mary, who looks at it with amazement.
SISTER MARY
Whoa, Sister Penelope, this is
amazing. Did you do it?
Sister Penelope smiles, proud of herself.
SISTER PENELOPE

Go, Padre. Take care of your herd.
Sister Mary comes out, unnoticed.
HARRISON LEE
You won't want us to take a Sister the

Harrison Lee cracks a laugh, when...
...Sister Mary raises her gun and... SHOOTS!
The bullet passes by Harrison Lee's cheek! Harrison Lee lets
out a scream of pain and his men stop shooting.
Everyone looks back at Sister Mary, stunned.
MOTHER CARMEN
Sister Mary!
Harrison Lee touches his cheek. Sees the blood.
SISTER MARY

Sister Mary doesn't even blink, decided.
Harrison Lee sighs and raises his hand, giving his men a sign

SISTER MARY
With all due respect, Father DuPont,

FATHER DUPONT
But we talked about this, Sister Mary!
The Lord will look out for us...!
SISTER MARY

Sister Mary thinks twice. Shakes her head, ashamed.
SISTER MARY

FATHER DUPONT
Look, we all have had a rough couple

Harrison Lee remains silent, doubtful.

JEBEDIAH
Now you're talking, Sis!
Sheriff Wilbur shakes his head, shocked.
SISTER MARY
In any case, I'm not here to talk

and compassion for Mr. Jebediah. He's
not a bad man.
SHERIFF WILBUR
What are you talking about? He
kidnapped you!
SISTER MARY
He's just confused, and I'm more than
convinced that, with a little help, he
could find the light of the Lord to
come back to the path of
righteousness.
SHERIFF WILBUR
But, Sister Mary, this isn't just
about your kidnapping. His brother and
he had stolen, at least, from a dozen
other banks in the last year, and for
that, there is no clemency. I can't
let him free just because he was nice
to you.
SISTER MARY
I don't ask for such a thing. I just
ask you to take into consideration
that he is still a decent man and that
he might find the right path if he
follows the way of the Lord.
Sister Mary looks at Jebediah. He draws a smile.
SHERIFF WILBUR
...Alright. I'll have that under
consideration. But I don't know what
else you want me to do.
Sister Mary hands him a Bible she carries along with her.
SISTER MARY
I want to give him this book to help
him find the right path as soon as
possible, so the Lord takes pity on
him. Would that be okay?
Sheriff Wilbur checks out the Bible. It looks normal.
SHERIFF WILBUR
...Well, yes. I suppose it is.
Sister Mary takes it away from his hand and goes to Jebediah.
SISTER MARY
Good! Here you go, Mr. Jebediah...
Sister Mary gives it to him. He looks at it with doubt.
JEBEDIAH
Don't take this the wrong way, Sis,
but I don't know how much can this
help right now.
SISTER MARY
Oh, the good book always helps in the
times of most need, Mr. Jebediah.
Believe me.
She gives him a look - play along. He gets it.
JEBEDIAH
Alright... If you say so...
SISTER MARY
You're welcome. Sheriff Wilbur, as

She sees the STATUE OF CHRIST IN THE CROSS - a painful face.

SHERIFF WILBUR

Mary might not be perfect, but she's

BRANDON BAXTER
Are you going to let talk like that,
Sheriff? They're criminals!
SISTER MARY
They're not such a thing!
JEBEDIAH SERGIO
Eh... Morality is a big grey...
SISTER MARY
Well, maybe they are! But they're
certainly not worse than the men who

She points at the destroyed church.
SISTER MARY
And the man who ordered!
She points at Brandon Baxter.
HARRISON LEE
Yeah! I didn't even want to do any of
it! It's not too late, is it, Padre?
To find salvation...
He kneels in front of him, begging.
FATHER DUPONT
Well...
SISTER PENELOPE
You blew a church with people in it...
SISTER MARY
He has confessed his sins and is
clearly ashamed of them, so it's not
too late...
Mother Carmen smiles softly - Sister Mary might be a good nun
after all.
SISTER MARY
But it will be for you, Mr. Baxter, if
you don't admit what you have done
here tonight...
Brandon Baxter looks at her with absolute discontent. He
presses his lips, and he finally says what he has to say.
BRANDON BAXTER
I have nothing to confess, Sister, and
no reason to be treated like this.
Unlike you and your church, I don't
work with criminals. And even the
nonsense from this disturbed
individual is nothing more than that.
Nonsense to distract from a bunch of
bandits and sinners. Bandits that have
infested our town. The very same I've
pledged to wipe out once I'm elected
Mayor. Arrest them, Sheriff.
However... Sheriff Wilbur doesn't do what he tells him to.
His eyes are set on Sister Mary. An honest face.
BRANDON BAXTER

SHERIFF WILBUR
Alright, I have heard enough...
BRANDON BAXTER
There you go!
SHERIFF WILBUR

Sheriff Wilbur prepares the cuffs.
BRANDON BAXTER
Sheriff Wilbur, you can't be serious!

SHERIFF WILBUR
