FADE IN: EXT. VIEW ABOVE MID-SIZED TOWN (DAYTON, OH) - DAY
A HAWK glides gracefully over a picturesque midwestern town,
revealing vibrant colors of working-class American life. It
sweeps past large trees, church spires, and rocky cliffs
above a river.
As it soars, the hawk’s keen eyes spot a cream-colored
Victorian house with a white picket fence and four figures in
the front yard.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
By now, you’ve probably heard about
two daring brothers from Dayton, Ohio
who invented the first heavier-than-
air aeroplane.
But you probably didn’t know was that
changing the world was the easy part.
The hawk circles down gracefully, zeroing in on the house
that holds the Wright family’s treasures— their laughter,
their dreams.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
Now, I don’t want to get ahead of
myself, so let’s go back to what
sparked it all in the first place.
EXT. WRIGHT HOUSE - OUTSIDE YARD - CONTINUOUS
YOUNG WILL (12), YOUNG ORV (8), and YOUNG KATIE (6) leap with
delight around a bearded man, BISHOP MILTON WRIGHT (40s), who
hands out candy.
The bird’s eye view ends as it takes a seat upon a branch in
the front yard. A strikingly beautiful hawk rests there,
observing the family with interest.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
That’s me in the middle, Katharine, or
Katie, as my four big brothers called
me, the only daughter of Bishop and
Susan Wright. I was closest to my
brothers Orv and Will... except when
we fought.
As the younger boys tussle for treats, Will passes to Katie
his share of treats.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
We had a fairly typical upbringing,
but when we got together, that’s when
the magic happened.
Bishop Wright, dignified and conservative, gathers his
children around him.
BISHOP WRIGHT
It’s wonderful to be back. Look
what I have— treats for my sweets!
He produces a small propeller-toy, igniting a joyous uproar.
He winds it up and releases it into the air. The children
chase the toy skyward as it lifts higher, their laughter
tapers off as they venture after it, outside their yard.
They head deep into thick woods, following a narrow path
along the banks of the Miami River, excitement bubbling.
They arrive at a hidden cave entrance, shadows looming
ominously, and they hesitate before crossing the threshold.
CAVE - CONTINUOUS - DAY
Inside, shadows dance as Will lights torches, flickering
light revealing the cave’s enigmatic interior.
They grip each other's arms, nerves palpable.
KATHARINE
(whispering)
What if we can’t find our way out?
Will flashes a reassuring smile.
WILL
We will. Our dreams will light our
path.
They arrive in a larger chamber, where Will places a few
flickering candles on a rocky surface. The air feels thick
with energy, anticipation crackling.
WILL
Alright, let’s make secret wishes.
Think about something HUGE.
ORV
Like being mayor?
WILL
No, bigger. Making a real impact. Like
discovering new lands... or inventing
something amazing.
KATHARINE
Can I wish too?
WILL
Of course! Let’s honor each of our
dreams.
They close their eyes.
ORV
I wish... for adventure, like a
treasure-hunting explorer!
KATHARINE
I wish... to soar, like an eagle...in
control of my own destiny!
ORV
You can’t wish for something like
that! That’s just plain silly!
WILL
Sure, she can! It’s just a wish- and I
want to do something that changes the
world!
(beat)
Together we’ll bring our wishes to
life. To the Great Wrights who can do
no wrong!
WILL, ORV AND KATHARINE
(in unison)
The Great Wrights who can do no wrong!
Will extinguishes the candles, weaving darkness around them.
They laugh, echoing in the cave, their hopes before them.

A Game of Joy and Tragedy
EXT. OUTDOOR SKATING RINK (DAYTON, OHIO) - DAY
Years have come and gone, and BISHOP WRIGHT (late 50s) now
sports more gray hair and a flowing beard. He gazes proudly
at a fierce hockey match unfolding on the frozen river.
Young KATHARINE (12), filled with admiration, sits close by,
flanked by her mother, SUSAN WRIGHT (early 50s)— a simple,
yet refined woman whose gentle demeanor is a calming anchor
amid the excitement.
The boys have grown too: Will (18) is now a paragon of
athleticism, effortlessly showcasing his skills, while the
spirited Orv (14) struggles to keep pace on the ice.
The energy radiating from the game pulls in a crowd of
excited townsfolk, buzzing with excitement.
KATHARINE
Go, Bubbo! You can do it!
Orv glances back with a grin, playfully returning her wave.
BISHOP WRIGHT
What a glorious morning, isn’t it?
Katharine and Susan nod, eyes locked on Will as he skates
with fierce determination, navigating around opponents.
LOCAL TOWNSPERSON #1
Good day, Bishop, Mrs. Wright!
BISHOP WRIGHT
A fine day to you!
Tension electrifies the scene as the boys fiercely trade
passes on the ice. As Will executes an exceptional move,
Katharine leans forward in awe, swelling with pride.
Several girls nearby gaze with admiration, whispering
excitedly. Will takes notice, stealing a smile at one girl
who shyly waves back.
LOCAL TOWNSPERSON #2
Look at Will out there— what a star!
BISHOP WRIGHT
Indeed, I’m proud of all four of my
sons.
Katharine grimaces by the slight.
BISHOP WRIGHT
... but Will has a rare spark.
LOCAL TOWNSPERSON #2
Yale's got to be a top consideration
for a lad of his caliber!
BISHOP WRIGHT
He hasn't decided yet. Every path
remains open before him.
Will breaks free from the pack, surging toward the goal with
fiery ambition.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
Will was always the brave one, running
toward dreams while I lingered in his
shadow...
She watches with wide eyes as he powers toward the goal.
KATHARINE
Go Wills! You've got this!
A thick tension cloaks the air. Will deftly skates past his
rival, squared up for a shot. He breathes, focusing as the
puck glides away from his stick— his eyes locked on the net.
In a split second, chaos erupts: a boy swings wildly to block
the shot, losing control of his stick.
KATHARINE
Watch out, Will!
Will instinctively glances at her, a fleeting smile on his
lips.
Then, in a horrific instant, he is struck directly in the
mouth with the hockey stick. The disturbing THWACK cuts
across the rink.
The crowd gasps. An ominous silence falls, pierced only by
the WOOSH of the puck as it sails unhindered into the net.
Will collapses, the ice stained crimson with blood.
KATHARINE
Will!!!!!
Panic clouds Katharine's features, as townsfolk rush to him,
their cheers extinguished, replaced by urgent cries.
As Will is lifted from the ice, his face drenched in blood.
Orv turns to her, his concern evident.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
I’ve always looked up to him, but in
that moment, I didn’t know if he’d
ever stand tall again...
The joyous atmosphere is irrevocably shattered, and Katharine
stands frozen— her dreams entwined with her brother’s fate.

Finding Purpose in Despair
EXT. WRIGHT HOUSE - EARLY SPRING - EVENING
The sound of a small hatchet echoes as Katharine, lost in
thought, hacks at a block of ice, the fragments CRACKING and
SHATTERING as they fall. She fills glasses with the cubes,
her eyes occasionally darting toward Will, who gazes blankly
at the ceiling, his face not just marred by injury but by the
weight of despair.
She steadies herself, takes a deep breath, and steps outside,
carrying a tray. On the porch, she finds Orv, who stands
looking out into the front yard. Birds CHIRP loudly, resting
in nearby trees as if oblivious to the turmoil at the house.
Katharine bites her lip, fidgeting with the ice cubes on the
tray, her guilt palpable.
ORV
Hard to believe he's still like this
so long after the accident.
She nods, a shadow crossing her face.
KATHARINE
I still feel so bad for distracting
him. If only I hadn’t called out to
him...
She pauses, swallowing hard, as a BREEZE rustles through the
trees— inviting yet haunting.
ORV
Nonsense. Accidents happen all the
time. It’s not whether we get knocked
down. It’s whether we get back up.
They share a meaningful glance before entering the house.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - PARLOR - EVENING
The warmth of the parlor provides a stark contrast to the
chill outside. Susan sits, her hands deftly knitting. Will
enters, dragging his feet, his eyes heavy with sorrow. Scars
on a once-vibrant boy now reduced to the walking wounded.
SUSAN
Will, darling, will you bring me a
warm water bottle?
WILL
Yes, ma’am.
Susan sets down her knitting, her gaze intent on him.
SUSAN
You can’t stay locked in this sour
mood forever. You know that, don’t
you?
She looks at him intently.
SUSAN
Not everyone has the God-given
gifts you have, and you shouldn’t toss
them aside because of the accident.
WILL
Gifts? What gifts? In a heartbeat,
my dreams turned to dust, and I’m left
with nothing but this pain.
SUSAN
The pain you’re feeling is only
temporary, and you’re so much bigger
than this.
Susan takes a steady breath, feeling the gravity of his
words. Katharine listens in from afar.
SUSAN
Oh, my dear boy. Let me share a
parable. Once, there were two stone
masons who toiled side by side. One
day, a traveler asked the older mason
what he was doing. He replied, “I’m
cutting stone.”
(beat)
The traveler then asked the younger
mason the same question. And you know
what he said? He said, “I’m
building a cathedral...”
(beat)
Will, whatever you do with your
precious time, you’ve got to spend
it with a broader meaning in mind.
(beat)
You need to build your cathedral.
Will, feeling the weight of her words, leans down and places
a gentle kiss on her forehead.
He takes a long, lingering look at the wooden propeller toy
on a shelf, a gleam of nostalgia in his eyes. He gently lifts
his mother, carrying her upstairs.

From Tombstones to Triumph
EXT. WRIGHT HOUSE - FRONT WALKWAY
Will regards his reflection in the mirror, a look of
vulnerability in his eyes. The sound of a LOUD NOISE from
outside snaps him from his thoughts. He heads outside.
WILL
Need a hand?
He joins Orv, who unloads a mishmash of old machinery and
worn tombstones.
WILL
What are you doing?!
ORV
Thought it’d be fun to make a printing
press! Just some sturdy materials I
thought would help...
WILL
Old tombstones? Really?
Orv's eyes shine with mischief, but there's a hint of
something deeper.
ORV
They won’t need them anymore! Besides,
it’s a way for us to leave our mark on
the world. Together. Imagine the
laughs we'd have! I mean, you're so
good with words, and I'm decent with
mechanical things. Plus, it is SO much
better than sitting around playing
housemaid all day, right?
Will's smile wavers, a flicker of concern surfacing.
WILL
It just feels... a bit morbid, don’t
you think?
ORV
(light-heartedly)
Well, aren’t we just full of fresh
ideas? We can call it "beyond the
grave printing."
Will chuckles, but his eyes betray a hint of trepidation.
ORV
Seriously, Will. We could start a
newspaper together. It could be our
way of breaking free... of having our
voices heard.
WILL
Alright, let’s give it a shot.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE GARAGE - DAYS LATER
The printing press whirs energetically. Orv pulls up a proof
sheet, revealing the banner of "The West Side News."
ORV
Our first article: "Brits One-up U.S.
on the New Two!"
A large photo captures a bicycle design from England.
ORV
If it’s happening on Dayton streets,
you’ll see it in the West Side sheets!
Will examines the proof closely, then notices an odd-looking
man in a photo.
WILL
What about the bird suit guy? Is this
happening in Dayton, too? Don’t see
him around these parts.
ORV
Oh that? I just threw it in for
laughs, something to catch the eye.
WILL
Funny. (beat) Nice touch.
Will's smile fades slightly as he looks up from the photo.
EXT. WRIGHT HOUSE - FRONT WALKWAY - DAY
The brothers enter the yard, wheeling in shiny new bicycles.
WILL
Katie! Bishop! We have something to
show you!
They prop the bicycles up proudly.
ORV
Your brothers are now the proud owners
of not just new bicycles, but of our
own destinies! We're free to fly down
the streets now!
KATHARINE
But remember— fly with caution! No
time for injuries!
Orv exchanges a knowing glance with Katharine, who is happy
to have their old Will back.

WILL
(softly to himself)
Just keep it steady...
Orv races ahead like a whirlwind, dodging rocks and roots,
the wind whipping past him.
ORV
(shouting back)
Try to keep up, Will!
A FRIEND laughs, trying to catch up.
FRIEND
You’ll lose him at this rate!
Along the way, a FRIEND’S bicycle grinds to a halt, a
mechanical issue. Orv zooms in, eager to show off his skills.
A sweet, pretty girl watches on.
ORV
(playfully, to the girl)
Don’t worry, I’ve got this!
ORV
(to Will, winking)
If we fix enough bikes, we should
charge for it! Call it “Wright & Co.”!
WILL
Let’s not jump ahead of ourselves,
brother.
(beat)
I just want to make it through today
without breaking anything!
Will glances back at Orv, their eyes locking.
EXT. OLD WAREHOUSE - DAY
The brothers haul bicycles into an old warehouse, sunlight
streaming through dusty windows. Customers trickle in.
WILL
We need more space! Let’s clear out
this junk!
In the corner are two old-fashioned bikes, one large front
wheel and a smaller rear wheel. Orv yanks one forward,
grinning.
ORV
Look at this beauty! Think we could
sell these?
Will frowns.
WILL
Please be serious. If we don’t make it
big, we could lose everything.
Reputation matters.
EXT. DAYTON MAIN STREET - NEXT DAY
Orv rounds the corner on a large, customized bike with two
oversized wheels, a crisp “WRIGHT CYCLE CO.” sign flapping
proudly. Townsfolk pause, some chuckling, others clapping at
the amusing sight.
A PASSERBY lifts an eyebrow.
PASSERBY
Hey, are you opening more shops?
ORV
Absolutely!
Will scurries behind, nerves fluttering.
WILL
What if it doesn’t work out?

stopped us”?

A Sign of Hope
EXT. WRIGHT CYCLE SHOP - DAY
The family members gather in front of a simple brick building
with large windows. Susan looks very weak, and needs the
support of Katharine. Orv and LORIN WRIGHT, a lean man in his
late 20s and second-eldest Wright brother, lifts up the same
sign that was on the bike and attaches it above the door.
Will stands below, directing them.
WILL
Lorin, will you help your brother out?
You’re not holding your end up.
LORIN
Okay, okay. Easy, easy.
They hammer the sign into place.
SUSAN
Congrats, boys. You've done it.
Katharine and Susan turn to leave, arm-in-arm, walking along
the tree-lined path near their home.
SUSAN
Those boys depend on you a great deal
more than you realize.
KATHARINE
They’re a handful, as you well know.
SUSAN
They're not that bad.
(slight cough)
I just wish I could be around long
enough to watch all of you grow. To
see you graduate from college, like I
did. Far too women miss out. You can’t
let that happen to you.
KATHARINE
Oh, stop it. You're doing fine.
SUSAN
No, I'm not and you know it. Katie, I
need you to watch out for those two-

gone. You’ll be the sole woman of the
household and I need you to hold
everything together. I’m counting on

KATHARINE

EXT. SCHOOL GROUNDS (OBERLIN COLLEGE) CONTINUOUS
She steps out of the classroom, looking for the bird, longing
to feel its boundless freedom. As she spots it flitting among

KATHARINE
Oh, hello.
Flustered, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
HARRY HASKELL

HARRY HASKELL
I must congratulate you, Miss Wright.
Your essay on the Monroe Doctrine was
nothing short of brilliant.

dodging rambunctious boys. But,
there's a new student I’ve met who is

proudly dons his lederhosen as he attaches his winged glider.
OTTO'S WIFE, a gentle yet sturdy figure, gazes at him with a
mix of fear and admiration. She places a hand on his cheek

OTTO'S WIFE
Promise me you'll be careful.
OTTO LILIENTHAL

Fear not, my lady! Soon, I will soar

Otto grips the glider and walks toward the hill. The crowd’s
anticipation pulses. Otto glances back at his wife, who gives
a small, encouraging nod.
With swift determination, Otto launches down the hill, the
wind whistling through his hair. He leaps into the air, arms
outstretched. The crowd GASPS, a collective breath held, eyes

ORV
What are you talking about? Flying

The Great Aerodrome's Ambitious Launch
INT. SMITHSONIAN CASTLE - OFFICE (WASHINGTON, DC) - DAY
DR. SAMUEL LANGLEY, a distinguished man in his 50s, stands
before an expansive window, his gaze fixed on the sweeping
grandeur of the National Mall.
The soft rustle of papers breaks the silence as CHARLES MANLY
(29), his steadfast assistant, enters, precariously balancing
a stack of letters.
CHARLES MANLY
Excuse me, Dr. Langley. Where would
you like me to place your mail?
Langley scowls and waves dismissively at the mountain of
correspondence cluttering his desk. He plucks a letter from
the top and flings it back onto the pile.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
All the government cares about are
costs and red tape! Do they not see
the vision? Do they not realize what
I’m about to accomplish?
Charles raises an eyebrow as he sets a letter titled “Dayton,
Ohio” on the pile, clearly skeptical.
CHARLES MANLY
Sir, with all due respect— perhaps a
little patience with your benefactors
might go a long way.
Langley spins, suddenly full of fervor, passion igniting him.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
The Great Aerodrome will fly! We stand
on the precipice of a new age! The
Smithsonian Institution and I will be
etched in history as the creators of
the first full-scale flying machine!
As Manly reads the label on the Ohio letter, Langley’s eyes
drift to a flock of birds soaring gracefully across the azure
sky outside the large windows. He gestures toward them, a
smile creeping on his face.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
Those magnificent creatures... They
embody freedom, a power that I seek to
replicate. Being capable of flight—
not just a dream, but a reality!
CHARLES MANLY
But how can you ensure support when it
seems every detail ignites suspicion?
Langley's expression hardens, his hands clench.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
The U.S. War Department wants their
flying machine! All that matters is
its success! Tomorrow marks our moment
in history!
Charles looks on with apprehension.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
It won’t matter if it costs $1,
$1,000, or... $50,000!
As Langley looks outside the window, a bird warbles, pooping
as its droppings land squarely on the head of a sculptured
figure bearing the name "Langley" at its base.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
Damn!
EXT. POTOMAC RIVER - DAY
The Aerodrome rests atop a houseboat, surrounded by an
excited group of photographers. Manly adjusts his flying
gear, sweat beading on his brow, a mix of determination and
anxiety.
In another boat nearby, Langley is joined by ALEXANDER GRAHAM
BELL, a distinguished 60-year-old man with a long beard,
flanked by a throng of reporters.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
Thank you for being here on this
momentous occasion! As my good
friend Alexander Graham Bell will
attest, great discoveries can arise
from both accidents and the sheer
force of invention.
(gestures to the
Aerodrome)
Today, we shall witness how the magic
of flight is born from exquisite
engineering and the power of a hundred
thoroughbreds propelling our chariot
through the skies.
(to the reporters)
You can quote me on that. But enough
speeches! Let’s make history!
The crowd leans in, captivated. The steam engine ROARS to
life. Manly steals a nervous glance at Langley, who flashes
him a reassuring grin.
The Aerodrome lunges forward, only to culminate in chaos as
the craft veers off the boat and CRASHES into the Potomac.
CHARLES MANLY
No!!
The craft starts to sink. Langley watches in shock, his face
drained of color, the reporters left speechless.

He examines the books, revealing titles like "Bird Flight as
a Basis for Aviation" and "The Flight of Birds."
EXT. WRIGHT BICYCLE SHOP - DAY
The brothers attempt to sync their movements while assembling
another bicycle, but the tension is palpable.
ORV
Damn it, Will! Get your head out of
the clouds!
WILL
Orv, we need to talk. I know you think
I’ve lost it...
ORV
Wouldn’t be the first time.
WILL
And I wouldn’t hide anything from you,
right?
ORV
Yeah, at least you’re consistent.
Will pauses, searching for any sign of support.
WILL
Over the last few days, I’ve been
devouring every book on flying I could
find. Here’s the thing: a flying
machine requires three elements:
wings, propulsion, and most
importantly, total control.
ORV
Control? Is that even possible?
WILL
That’s the key! People intuitively
grasp bicycle mechanics— they can
learn to operate a flying machine too!
Will retrieves a book, excitedly pointing at a photograph.
WILL
See? Lilienthal was a pioneer, but he
lacked the control needed for success.
And now, he’s gone.
ORV
What are you saying, Will?
WILL
I know this sounds crazy, but the
answers could be staring us in the
face.
(beat)
If we have the right machine, some
good fortune, and two crazy brothers
willing to take the leap- flight could
be within our grasp.
He confidently spins the wheel of an upside-down bicycle.

EXT. FOREST - CLIFF TOPS ABOVE THE MIAMI RIVER - DAY
The sound of a hawk's call echoes through the trees as Will
hikes up a steep path, each step deliberate, his brow
furrowed in thought. Sunlight filters through the branches,
illuminating his focused expression.
Reaching the top, he stands in awe at the breathtaking vista.
His gaze follows a hawk gliding effortlessly on the wind, its
wings adjusting with precision.
WILL
(to himself)
It shifts with such ease. Is it
instinct or a battle of equilibrium?
If only I could capture that balance.
The hawk's cry lingers in the air, transitioning to:
INT. WRIGHT BICYCLE SHOP - DAY

the wings without sacrificing the

ORV
So... we’re making a flying bicycle?
WILL
(smirking)
No. But birds have mastered
equilibrium in ways we haven’t even
begun to understand. How do they do
it?
ORV
Maybe they’re just better at flying
than humans.
Will chuckles, but a flicker of concern crosses his face.
WILL
You ever think about the risks?
Sending something into the sky... it
could end very badly.
ORV
It’s just like anything else, Will.
We buckle up, take a leap, and hope
for the best.
Will nods, the weight of ambition settling on his shoulders.
EXT. WRIGHT HOUSE - FRONT PORCH - DAY
Will tinkers with a bike outdoors, when Hank the Mailman
approaches with a stack of letters.
WILL
Anything exciting today?
HANK THE MAILMAN
A letter from Chicago.
Hank hands him the letter. Will reads aloud:
WILL (V.O.)
“...A two-layered structure, similar
to a bridge, can provide flexibility
and strength.”
Excitement wells up inside Will.
WILL
How do these elements translate to
flight? Let’s debate this!
Orv leans in, intrigued.
ORV
Okay, but if it involves complex
engineering, do we have the brains or
time for that?
WILL
We can't afford to play it safe.
It’s now or never!
INT. WRIGHT BICYCLE SHOP - EVENING
As dusk falls, Orv pokes his head in.
ORV
Good night, Will. Katie and I are
heading to the Alexanders’.
Will waves distractedly, still lost in thought when a MALE
CUSTOMER walks in.
MALE CUSTOMER
I’d like a bicycle tube, please.
WILL
Sure, one moment.
Will grabs a rectangular tube box, fidgeting with it. As he
twists it, inspiration strikes.
MALE CUSTOMER
Uh, sir...
Suddenly, he stops, eyes widening.
WILL
That’s it! It’s so simple!
In a burst of excitement, he hugs the customer, then regains
composure.
WILL
Sorry about that!
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - WILL’S BEDROOM - NIGHT
Will lies awake, moonlight bathing his face in a silvery
glow. He squeezes his eyes shut, but visions burst forth.
DREAM SEQUENCE: His thoughts materialize vividly, like a
kaleidoscope: Calculations swarm like starlings, structures
of wood and fabric unfold with each heartbeat, revealing a
gleaming mechanical contraption floating above him,
fluttering as though alive.
EXT. LARGE FIELD - DAY
A vibrant blue sky stretches overhead as a GROUP OF LAUGHING
YOUNG BOYS chase after Will. He clutches a small glider kite,
its vibrant colors flapping eagerly in the breeze.
A grin stretches across his face as he skillfully maneuvers
it, each graceful movement eliciting joyous gasps from his
young friends. The kite soars.

KATHARINE
Want some sisterly advice? Keep this

HANK THE MAILMAN
Just your average letter from the
National Weather Bureau. Planning a

WILL
(chuckling)
Sort of...
He rips open the envelope, eyes scanning the content.
INSERT: Chart labeled "National Weather Bureau - Average Wind
Speed of the United States - 1900". Will's finger glides
across the entries, then stops abruptly at: “Kitty Hawk, NC”.
WILL
(whispering to himself)
"Kitty Hawk." What a peculiar name...
As Will's face reflects a newfound fervor, the weight of his
dreams solidifies. He grips the weather report tightly.
INT. WRIGHT FAMILY HOME - PARLOR - DAY
Will strides onto the front porch, where Orv and Katharine
are lounging.
WILL
I think I found the perfect spot for
our wind experiments. A charming place
called Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks
of North Carolina.
KATHARINE
Wow... that sounds- far away!
WILL
Just think: our business is booming,
our stores are packed! Once things
cool down in the Fall, I know you can
handle the shops, right?
KATHARINE
(sighing, half-joking)
As long as we’re not experimenting
with running the business into the

He simply grins, misreading her lingering doubt.
WILL
Oh, you got this, sis!
Turning to Orv.
WILL
Wouldn’t this be the perfect time for
a getaway?
Who wouldn’t love a gentleman’s
“scientific” trip? What do you say,
lil bro? Can we go for it?
ORV
Well, since you put it that way,
how could I refuse?
INT. WRIGHT WORKSHOP - DAY
Will meticulously builds the glider, surrounded by the
excitement of family poking their heads in. Orv helps him by

Hmmmm... not sure if this fabric will
hold the intense pressure of flight.

You need more strength in the seam? I
know just the thing! Orv, please grab
mother’s sewing machine from the
attic?
Orv goes and comes back with it, setting it down. She
instantly goes to work, creating a complex corner stitch with
the machine.

KATHARINE
This is what I’ve been dying to
show you- my brothers’ ambition

ISABEL
It’s so delicate. Will it really fly?
KATHARINE
Soon they’ll take it to North Carolina

brothers, they’re not just dreaming;
they’re up to something big- really
big. So, that’s it. I no longer have
any secrets.
Her eyes sparkle with pride.
ISABEL
Well, I have a big secret, too.
(giggling)
KATHARINE
What is it, Isabel?
ISABEL
I’m seeing Harry Haskell, and it’s

Katharine’s smile falters, her disappointment visible.
KATHARINE
Really? Harry? He’s quite the catch.
Good for you. Well, I think we’ve all

KATHARINE

Wright, daughter of the Bishop. I just

MALE ADMINISTRATOR
I’m sorry, Miss, but all of the

KATHARINE
How can that be? I applied months ago.
Am I not the most qualified? I’ve
mastered both Latin and English? Your

MALE ADMINISTRATOR
We have to fill these positions with
individuals who are the primary

KATHARINE
So, basically, an all-male teaching
staff?
MALE ADMINISTRATOR
I’m afraid so. It’s school policy.
Perhaps you’d like to work in the

KATHARINE
Thanks, but I get enough of that at

WILL
What a quaint abode you have here.
BILL TATE
Quirky, maybe! But it’s hard to beat
the company of a good pot of stew.
Have a seat— looks like you could take
on a couple meals. Just don’t expect
a gourmet spread; our pantry has seen

As Will settles in, Addie fills his plate with hot, steaming
meat and fresh bread. He notices CHILDREN peeking curiously
from the doorway, eyes wide with wonder.
BILL TATE
Now, before you get too comfortable,
there’s a few things about Kitty Hawk
you ought to know.
Will pauses, the fork halfway to his mouth, sensing the
weight of Bill's words.
BILL TATE
For starters, we’re off the grid—
no electricity or running water.
We’re about four miles from the
telegraph station connecting us to the
outside world. This quiet little spot?
It has its charms, but it can be harsh
and isolating.
Will absorbs every word, excitement brewing within him.
BILL TATE
I oversee the Kill Devil Hill Life
Saving Station. The rough seas can be
deadly— but we save lives out here.
Without us, men die in the waves.
A child, TOM TATE (10), raises his hand.
TOM TATE
Hey, mister, my pop says you can fly.
Is that true?
Will chuckles, the warmth of innocence wrapping around him.
WILL
Hope to, someday, but if I do, you
folks will be the first to see it.

themselves.

Tom stands proudly next to the glider, hands on his hips.

The brothers chuckle as they guide Tom into the glider.

I’m seen as the world's foremost

Yes, merci.

self-preservation must be your mantra.

surveying her creation.
KATHARINE
I must say, clothes do make a man!
INT. TRAIN CAR - DAY
In the crowded coach, Will pores over his notes. A YOUNG GIRL
sits down across the aisle, catching his eye. Flustered, he
shifts in his seat, dropping his notes.
YOUNG GIRL
Looks like you dropped something
important.
Will blinks in surprise, unsure how to respond.
WILL
No, it’s nothing, really.
He quickly scoots over to another spot on the train, trying
to regain his composure.
WILL
Focus, Will.
EXT. SOCIETY OF WESTERN SCIENTISTS BUILDING (CHICAGO) - DAY
Will arrives outside the grand hall and ascends the steps
with deliberate slowness. He’s greeted with a firm clap on
the shoulder from Chanute.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
Thank God you’re here! How are you?
WILL
Well, I've been better.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
Nonsense. You’re exactly where you
need to be.
They enter a bustling room filled with distinguished guests.
Octave checks Will’s readiness.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
On second thought, maybe not so fine.
How about a quick fresh-up?
WILL
Good idea!

INT. MEN'S RESTROOM - DAY
Will approaches the mirror, glancing at his reflection. He
takes a deep breath but then doubles over, rushing to a stall
to throw up. He closes the stall door. TWO GENTLEMEN enter.
GENTLEMAN ONE
I have to know- it's killing me. Why
do you keep coming to these dreadful
meetings?
GENTLEMAN TWO
I don't know. I find them entertaining-
and occasionally enlightening.
GENTLEMAN ONE
I guess we’ll see what this talk on
"fantastic flying machines” (using
finger quotes) amounts to.
GENTLEMAN TWO
Sounds thrilling, or a comic tragedy.
GENTLEMAN ONE
I heard this young chap didn't even
graduate from high school. And yet,
here he is, titillating us with his
splendid tales of utter mediocrity.
GENTLEMAN TWO
Well, just try to find some humor in
it.
GENTLEMAN ONE
I swear, I don't know where Chanute
finds these people!
GENTLEMAN TWO
Apparently in a bike shop in Ohio.
Will’s head rests on the side of the toilet. He accidentally
flushes, startling the gentlemen.
GENTLEMAN TWO
(chuckling)
Well, let's get going. We don't want
to miss a single scintillating
sentence.
They exit the restroom, laughter fading. Will emerges from
the stall, straightening his tie in the mirror. Octave bursts
through the door, enthusiasm radiating.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
Come along, Will. Everyone's waiting!
INT. PRESENTATION ROOM - MOMENTS LATER
The room is buzzing with excitement, the anticipation
palpable as Chanute takes the podium, greeted by polite
applause.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
Thank you for joining us today, dear
colleagues. It is my sincere pleasure
to discuss something that could
eternally alter our connection to the
heavens above.
The audience's anticipation heightens.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
Over the past two years, two
remarkable innovators from Dayton,
Ohio, have dared to tread where others
have hesitated. Their willingness to
embrace risk is commendable...
(beat)
Despite the hurdle of a reliable power
source, their work truly deserves our
attention. Just recently, I witnessed
their astonishing experiments in the
dunes of North Carolina.
He motions toward the side of the stage.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
Without further ado, it is my immense
honor to introduce Mr. Wilbur Wright.
The lights dim further as the audience claps. Will steps
forward but stumbles in the dark, causing a ripple of soft
laughter through the crowd.
WILL
Excuse me— pardon me! Ahem...
He finally finds his footing and points to a slide of a
glider projected behind him.
WILL
Today, I invite you to explore the
boundless possibilities of flight.
(beat)
The dream of human flight hinges on
three pivotal challenges we must
confront...
He raises three fingers.
WILL
First, we need highly efficient wings.
Second, a reliable power source to
propel our craft. And lastly, balance
and steering through the air.
Nervous sweat glistens on his brow as the audience leans in
closer, captivated by his sincerity.
WILL
Solving these puzzles will birth an
era of flying machines. Yet, each step
we take only reveals greater
complexities ahead.
An attentive silence blankets the room.
WILL
When observing birds, we think their
flight is effortless, simply flapping
their wings without a care.
He mimics the gentle motion of wings as he speaks.
WILL
But the untrained eye fails to
perceive the careful calculations
behind their every move. To even begin
naming the considerations a bird must
account for would take far longer than
we have tonight.
(audience chuckles)
However, if I take this piece of
paper...
Will holds up a sheet of paper, capturing curiosity from the
audience.
WILL
...and let it fall, what happens? Does
it drop swiftly, or does it flutter
about, unpredictably like a frightened
horse?
He releases the paper, and it dances downwards, drawing gasps
of wonder.
WILL
This is the very challenge we face; to
master its erratic nature is essential
for us to soar. Birds have charted
this course, and so must we.
The audience is visibly engaged, excitement brewing.
WILL
Sir, could you dim the lights further,
please?
As the lights lower, the slide transitions to their glider
soaring through the crisp sky, whispers of awe fill the room.
WILL
Notice the interplay of lift and drag
in crafting a heavier-than-air
machine. My brother and I have
designed a glider...
He clicks through slides, with gasps echoing each visual—
proof of their ingenuity.
WILL
...achieving glides that challenge our
understanding of gravity itself. Mr.
Chanute witnessed our work firsthand.
He glances at Chanute, who beams with pride. Will steps
closer to the audience, passion igniting in his voice.
WILL
I am convinced that by the end of this
century, we can engineer a machine
capable of safely ferrying us across
the skies.
He pauses dramatically, drawing the audience in as he lifts a
candle lantern.
WILL
...made possible by our relentless
pursuit of scientific understanding
and one key ingredient...
Breath held for a moment, then he extinguishes the lantern’s
flame by blowing it out.
WILL
...wind. The power to fly is within
our reach. Thank you!
The room erupts into thunderous applause. Attendees crowd
around Will, their excitement palpable. He catches Chanute’s
eye; the mentor's proud smile and subtle tip of his hat
fortify Will's resolve.

YOUNG GIRL
Thanks! Did that “not important”

Will gives a knowing grin, as he holds the door for her.
INT. WRIGHT WORKSHOP - DAY
Will unpacks slides and notes as Katharine and Orv gather
around him, the excitement of recent success radiating.
WILL
You should have seen it! These
were the brightest minds in the
scientific community, and they
were dumbfounded by lil ol' me- I
mean, us. They couldn't believe their
eyes!
INT. WRIGHT WORKSHOP - DAY
The brothers work with intense focus on their designs.
WILL
Since our last glides, these results
from Lilienthal just don’t add up. Our
glider can’t even achieve the lift we
anticipated! If we can’t trust the
data, how can we move forward?
ORV
Then we don’t. We need to rely
exclusively on our own rigorous
experimentation- no more playing
around with flawed numbers.
MONTAGE - GLIDER REFINEMENT - DAY
They assemble a large wind tunnel and create crude winged tin
objects, placed in the device. They log the results, their
faces illuminated with triumph.
WILL
Now we know- if we didn’t test it
ourselves, we don’t use it.
ORV
Our very lives could depend on it.
He rips a page from a notebook and tosses it into a bin.
EXT. KITTY HAWK - DAYS LATER
KATHARINE (V.O.)
On my brothers’ third trip to Kitty
Hawk, they faired much better,
benefitting from better living
quarters and a much improved craft.
Oh, they still hit the sand- hard- but
they devised an ingenious way to
connect the wing warping with the
tail, taking a giant leap forward in
control.
MINI-MONTAGE:
-- The brothers finish construction of a much larger shed,
with a kitchen, upper bunks, and an adjacent space for their
new glider.
-- Brother make adjustments to the craft
-- Series of successful glides
EXT. WRIGHT CAMP - EVENING

playfully howls back.
INT. STEELE HIGH SCHOOL - ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICE - DAY
Katharine sits oppose an empty desk. The Male Administrator
walks in, and plops down unenthusiastically.
KATHARINE
Well, I’m absolutely thrilled you’re
opening teaching positions to everyone
qualified.It’s so good for the
students!
MALE ADMINISTRATOR
Is that so?
KATHARINE
Well, it couldn’t hurt.
MALE ADMINISTRATOR
Well, in that spirit, there some rules
for female staff to join our ranks. At
Steele, we put our children first,
which means no offspring and no
courting during your tenure. This is
strictly enforced. Thank you for your
adherence.
KATHARINE
Doesn’t really sound like I have a
choice...
INT. WRIGHT WORKSHOP - DAY
Will, Orv, and mechanist Charlie gather around the Flyer,
the sounds of whirring tools echo in the background.
WILL
So, an engine under a 180 pounds,
producing at least 11 horsepower is
what we need.
CHARLIE TAYLOR
No, you don’t.
WILL
Excuse me?
CHARLIE TAYLOR
What you need is a miracle. The engine
you envision, it simply doesn’t exist.
It’s a fairy tale, much like little
green goblins. No man on Earth has
ever built such an engine.
ORV
Well, that’s why we’re thrilled to
have you, Charlie. If it doesn't
exist, we’ll build it ourselves!
He pats Charlie on the back as he growls, who tosses a rag.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - DINING ROOM - MORNING
The brothers sit with Bishop Wright, who grimaces as loud
O.S. EXPLOSIONS and EXPLETIVES erupt from outside.
ORV
Father, we apologize for the racket,
but Charlie works miracles.
BISHOP WRIGHT
Plenty of miracles occur without that
kind of language, mind you!
Katharine enters, waving a newspaper, her expression tense.
KATHARINE
So listen to this. Langley is set
to unveil his newest Aerodrome in just

INT. WRIGHT BICYCLE SHOP - NIGHT
Katharine is reviewing business receipts as she steps in the

(late 20s) enters and looks around.
He heads over to the tandem “bicycle-built-for-two” display,

HARRY HASKELL
Katharine! I didn’t expect to see you
in here. Thought I’d run into one of
your brothers.
KATHARINE
Oh, Harry. What a great coincidence!
I’m in charge of things while they
play in the dunes. What brings you in?
HARRY HASKELL
I was considering one of these tandem
models, as a Christmas gift. It’s like
two gifts in one.
KATHARINE
Oh, yes, that would be the perfect
gift, for the right lucky lady. I, um,
unfortunately, have no use for one,
though. Still riding solo.
(laughs)
My school made sure of that.
HARRY HASKELL
What do you mean?
KATHARINE
There are certain rules one must

tragic life of a parochial teacher!
She wheels the bicycle out the front door for him.
HARRY HASKELL
I’m sorry to hear that, but I just
can’t wait around to see how things
develop.
KATHARINE
I understand. Things are much more fun
with a riding partner. Sadly, it’s not
me.
EXT. KITTY HAWK - DAY
The brothers work on the craft in the shelter, wearing warm
weather clothes with breath plumes.
MINI-MONTAGE: Rain falls, unyielding, as icicles form. The

frustrated looks after several attempts yield nothing.
INT. SHED - MIDDAY
Will lays out a modest meal. A hand-written "Happy
Thanksgiving!” note is on the table, and a small roasted
pheasant sits at the center.
WILL
Will you please say grace before we
dig into our blessed meal?
ORV
Oh, me? Well, let me think for a
moment. What do I have to be thankful
for?
(agitated)
Well, let's see. I have spent more
time in this overgrown sandbox than I
can keep track of. Sometimes, we don't
have enough wind, usually, too much.
And, with all of this, we still don't
have a functioning motor!
(pauses)
So, big brother, I’m a little bit out
of blessings at the moment to tell you
the truth.
Silence.
WILL
That's not true. We have many things
to be thankful for. We still have each
other.
INT. WRIGHT CYCLE SHOP - EARLY EVENING

EXT. POTOMAC RIVER - DAY
KATHARINE (V.O.)
Well, while the brothers wrestled with
their new engine, Langley was chasing
something elusive with his Aerodrome—
a dream that felt all too familiar.
A large plume of white smoke billows from a craft with
several large wings protruding atop a houseboat. The sky
darkens as storm clouds swirl above, casting an ominous
shadow on the gathering crowd.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
Here we go again. Second time's
gotta be the charm, right?
CHARLES MANLY
Sure, boss.
SAMUEL LANGLEY
Let's limit the flight to ten minutes,
at most... Understood?
Manly throws off his coat, revealing a cork-lined jacket as
the crowd holds its collective breath.
He climbs into the pilot position while the engine sputters
and smokes. Langley gives him an encouraging "thumbs up."
Manly hesitates before weakly returning the gesture.
Langley and his party row away, leaving Manly to confront the
roaring beast as the Aerodrome trembles down the tracks. Just
as it tips off the edge, the craft crashes through the ice,
eliciting a gasp through the crowd.
UNDERWATER - CONTINUOUS
Manly fights against the icy grip of the river, headbutting
the frozen surface, desperate to escape.
He finally breaks through, hoisted up to safety by the crew,
sputtering and shaken.
INT. D.C. TELEGRAPH STATION - DAY

OCTAVE CHANUTE

Our family's rules matter— flying

Octave, visibly frustrated, throws his gear down.
OCTAVE CHANUTE
I didn’t realize you took those

EXT. WRIGHT CAMP - MORNING
SUPER: THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17
The brothers peer outside to see a cold, overcast day with
water puddles frozen over. The biting air escapes from their
mouths in visible puffs as they don their clothing.
They step onto the firm sand and gaze up at their flag,
snapping in the wind. They share a hopeful smile.
Orv secures the red flag while the brothers lay out a track.
They scurry back near their camp, huddling around the fire.
Three men, including JOHN DANIELS (30s), help move the flyer
to the launch site.
WILL
Morning, gentlemen! Thanks for the
back-up on this brisk day. Your
efforts today could make all the
difference!
LIFESAVERS
Here, here!
Will returns to tightening the craft as Orv sets up a camera.
He inserts a plate holder and hands a rubber bulb to Daniels.
ORV
The instant the craft leaves the
track, squeeze this. No hesitation.
JOHN DANIELS
Understood.
ORV
Good. I trust you.
The brothers perform final checks, their eyes locking on each
other as Will ignites the engine. It THUNDERS to life.
WILL
We've waited our whole lives for this
moment.
ORV
Yes, we have. Ready?
WILL
More than ever.
ORV
Then let’s conquer the wind.
They grasp hands. Orv climbs into the craft, and Will stands
by the controls. He glances at Orv and then flips the switch
to activate the propulsion system, triggering the stopwatch
and other indicators.
Will jumps back as the craft starts down the track, the sound
of clattering wood, flapping fabric and twisting metal gears
rings out. Will races beside it as it gathers speed.
Orv grips the levers, the air roaring around him.
The Flyer starts to shoot down the tracks. It begins to gain
speed- making a loud clattering noise. Orv has his hands
firmly at the levers, adjusting as the craft begins to leave
the tracks— slowly becoming airborne.
John Daniels' hands are shaking from the cold- but he pauses
long enough to squeeze the shutter device. A CLICKING NOISE
as the shutter flashes.
Orv lifts off about 10 feet off the ground. The Flyer
undulates up and down in a somewhat quirky fashion. Orv
wrestles the controls, the wind whipping wildly around him as
he fights to stabilize the machine.
After 12 seconds the craft settles down into the sand,
approximately 120 feet from where it started.
JOHN DANIELS
(to himself)
Damned if they didn't just fly!
Orv leaps from the craft, and Will rushes to embrace him.
They share a moment of pure elation as the lifesavers cheer.
ORV
We did it! I think we really did.
Orv pulls out a tape measure, kneeling beside the craft. Will
takes the other end, walking back to the track.
WILL
Twelve feet!
The men rush over, picking up the craft.
INT. SHED - DAY

casting flickering shadows across their eager faces. They

Kind of makes you wonder how far we

INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - DINING ROOM - EVENING
The dining room is aglow, with a beautifully adorned
Christmas tree and an elegant dinner spread. Will, in a
festive spirit surrounded by family, holds a carving knife,
dramatically slicing into a perfectly roasted turkey.
WILL
Ah, what a splendid bird!
After a gesture of grace from the Bishop, Will pulls out a
newspaper, his voice rising in mock pomp.
WILL
From the Cincinnati Inquirer:
“Dayton boys emulate great Santos
Dumont.” Apparently, we flew three
miles at an altitude of sixty feet.
(grinning)
And get this. It gets better: "an
onlooker recorded one of the Dayton
boys' first words after flight:
‘Eureka!’ he exclaimed!"
With perfect timing, Orv dramatically collapses onto the
floor, pretending to faint.
ORV
Eureka!! Eureka!!
The family erupts in laughter.
KATHARINE
So, what’s next for our fly boys?
WILL
Well, we're ready to rebuild the

We'll scout a testing ground, and once
we've logged a few more flights, we

He approaches the door, opening it to reveal GLENN CURTISS, a
sharply dressed man in his 30s, mustached with a cigar
casually clamped between his teeth. His demeanor is a mix of
charm and threat.
GLENN CURTISS
Pardon the intrusion. I’m searching

WILL
You’re welcome to warm up here. We're

GLENN CURTISS
Celebrating?
WILL

GLENN CURTISS
Really? Please, do tell.
The family leans in, curiosity piqued.
WILL

GLENN CURTISS
A noble pursuit, indeed. But others
will see it differently— perhaps as a
new way to wage war.

GLENN CURTISS
Boom. Their tragedy, our triumph.
Simple.
Will's expression hardens, unease seeping in.
GLENN CURTISS

the pilot. He does a short trip, then lands safely.
Katharine strides into the scene, picnic baskets in tow, her
eyes sparkling with excitement.
KATHARINE
Well, at first, I didn’t know what to

howdy, you’re really onto something!
ORV

KATHARINE
You two really have something special

Will’s expression brightens with encouragement.
HARRY TOULMIN

people willing to take advantage, but

EXT. HUFFMAN PRAIRIE - DAY
A distant rumble echoes as a steam train barrels past. Orv
scans the schedule, his brow furrowed.
ORV
This has to work, Katharine. It's more
than just a flight— it's our lives.
Onlookers gather, eyes glued to the sky.
KATHARINE
Something's changing, isn’t it?
ORV
Yes, but if we don't prove it can fly,
we'll fade into nothing. It's a risk
we can't afford.
Will grips the controls of the Flyer, his knuckles white as
he navigates turbulent gusts. The whistle of the steam train
harmonizes with the hum of the Flyer. Passengers lean out,
their eyes wide.
YOUNG GIRL
Look! It’s flying!
The spectators shift eagerly, straining for a better view of
the Flyer appearing above the trees, their astonishment
palpable.
Amidst the cheers, Will follows the circling birds as he
gently guides the Flyer through their dance. He lands it
flawlessly, and climbs out. Orv pushes the stopwatch.
ORV
More than five minutes!
WILL
Well, that does it then!
Katharine rushes over, breathless, fire in her eyes.
KATHARINE
The town has noticed. But are we ready
for that?
WILL
With their eyes on us, we have to
protect what we've built. It's not
just a machine, Katharine. It's a
chance for change.
ORV
And for every chance, there’s a risk.
We can’t afford to lose this.
WILL
I propose we offer the U.S. Government
the first chance to own it. If they
don't want it, we pivot. Simple as
that. No offer, no flying. No excuses.
ORV
Agreed. We can't allow our invention
to become someone else's weapon.
WILL
Agreed.
KATHARINE
You two are something else. Agreed.
But remember, failure lingers like a
shadow.
WILL
If this doesn't work out...
He trails off, the unspoken memories of past failures in the
air. Orv looks to Katharine, his resolve firm.
ORV
Then we learn, and we rise. Together.
With a silent vow, they push the Flyer into the shed, locking
the sliding doors behind them.

the motorcycle track.
FAIRGROUND ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
Ladies and gentlemen! Prepare
yourselves for a death-defying display
by the fastest man on the planet: the
incomparable Glenn Curtiss!
The crowd erupts into a deafening roar, excitement rippling
through them as Curtiss rides onto the track. He expertly
performs an upside-down handstand mid-lap, captivating
everyone around him.
Positioned at the starting line, Curtiss locks eyes with a
few FANS, flashing a confident, almost smug smile.
WOMAN
Look at him! No one can catch up with
Glenn Curtiss! Did you know he set a
world record? 136 miles per hour!
FAIRGROUND ANNOUNCER (V.O.)
On you marks. Get set...Go!!
INT. DARK TUNNEL – MOMENTS LATER
Curtiss enters a shadowy tunnel and squirts oil onto the
slick track behind him. SKIDDING TIRES and PANICKED SHOUTS
crackle through the air as competitors spin out of control.
EXT. FAIRGOUND RACE TRACK - CONTINUOUS
From afar, Will and Orv observe the chaos of the race. Orv's
jaw clenches; frustration mounts within him. Will furrows his
brow, concern filling his features.
ORV
It's like he's playing chess while the
rest of us are stuck in checkers.
WILL
It's not just a show; it's our future
he's toying with.
EXT. RACE TRACK - MOMENTS LATER
Curtiss crosses the finish line first. A DEAFENING CHEER
bursts from the stands. Fans swarm him, excitedly flinging
questions while REPORTERS crowd forward, eager for a word.
REPORTER #1
Curtiss, what’s it like to be the
champ again?
Curtiss lights a fat cigar, blowing out a puff of smoke,
relishing the attention.
CURTISS
There's no finer pleasure in this
world than the thrill of victory
and... crushing your opponents. It's
sweet— almost as sweet as your smile,
little Miss.
The crowd laughs as a BEAUTIFUL WOMAN blushes. He leans into
the applause.
CURTISS
Seriously, though, knowing you’re
completely superior to all competitors
in every way is simply beyond
description.
REPORTER #2
But you just described it!
CURTISS
See! Proof yet again of my mastery of
the impossible!
Laughter from the crowd.
REPORTER #2
You’re a powerhouse on land, but what
about the Wright brothers conquering
the air?
Curtiss’ expression hardens as irritation flickers in his
eyes. The brothers look on.
CURTISS
Who? Normally I wouldn’t waste my
breath on such frivolity as those
“bird men.” As if they could even
dream of intruding on my speed titles!
Orv shoots a harsh look at an annoyed Will.
WILL
Let him gloat. We won’t let him
overshadow our work.
Curtiss strides about confidently.
CURTISS
My friends, the power of speed is a
divine gift! And I’m blessed with it-
in abundance- not just on ground, but
in the furthest reaches of the sky!
He catches sight of the Wright brothers watching at a
distance, fire igniting their expressions.
CURTISS
I tell you this: mark my words! I
shall retain my title of the fastest
man both on land and, by the grace of
the heavens, in the quiet dance of the
clouds!
The crowd erupts in cheers, as the Wright brothers exchange a
determined look.
WILL
See, the problem with peacocks- they
can't fly worth a damn. It’s all just

Struggles and Support
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - DINING ROOM - DAY
Will enters the room, holding a letter with the word
"REJECTED" glaring at him. The Bishop and Orv look up from
their reading.
WILL
They just don't get it. We’re not
asking the government for development
funds- we’ve already built and flown a
workable craft! All they know is red
tape, while Langley’s huge flop is
costing taxpayers a fortune!
He crumples the letter in his fist, frustration boiling.
BISHOP WRIGHT
Boys, you must stand your ground and
speak the truth. Let my struggles with
the church be your lesson. There will
always be those seeking to profit from
your labor.
EXT. WRIGHT'S NEIGHBOR'S HOUSE - MORNING
Hank the Mailman and a NEIGHBOR sip coffee, eyes drawn toward
the Wright house, with trees having grown through the years,
partially shrouding it from view.
NEIGHBOR
So, let me get this straight: they
hold the patents, but no one can lay
eyes on that flying contraption
without strings attached, right?
HANK THE MAILMAN
Aye.
NEIGHBOR
That makes no sense!
HANK THE MAILMAN
Bingo! It’s like asking for a
medal before the race is run.
NEIGHBOR
How long can they keep up this
madness?
Gesturing to a stack of unclaimed letters.
HANK THE MAILMAN
Too long, I’d wager.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - FRONT PORCH - EVENING
Both brothers rock in their chairs, each holding articles and
letters. Will, lounging in his chair, the magazine article
titled "The Wright Aeroplane and Its Fabled Performances" in
his hands.
WILL
“Fabled performance?” A slap in the
face to our hard work! They’re saying
we’re either “flyers or liars.”
Both brothers rock in their chairs, each holding letters.
ORV
Well, at least we finally have a
serious offer from the Army! And this
French proposal... too good to pass
up. It feels like destiny knocking.
WILL
But can destiny knock in two places at
once?
ORV
Why not? You and I are practically the
same person. You tackle France and I
handle the Army in Virginia.
WILL
Splitting up feels... heavy.
He glances at Orv, determination sparking in his eyes.
WILL
We may have no other option. One or
two big contracts, and we can get back
to what we love— experimenting
together. Maybe after your trials in
Virginia, you can join me in France,
mon frère?
ORV
Nothing would make me happier.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - PARLOR - EVENING
Katharine strides in, clad in a professor's gown, a twinkle
of excitement in her eyes.
KATHARINE
Ta-da! Think my students will take me
seriously in this get-up? Is it too
much for a professor?
ORV
Well, look at you!
KATHARINE
It’s just some old fabric.
ORV
No, really! You’re the first true
scholar in the family. Here, let me
help you with that.
He adjusts her hat with care, then pulls out a small box,
revealing a ring that resembles a wedding band.
ORV
Katie, this is more than just a ring.
It’s a reminder of your brilliance and
your spirit. Wear it as a token of my
love and admiration for you. I insist
you wear it every day. On that finger.
He points to her left hand and places the ring. She
reluctantly slides it on.
KATHARINE
Okay, I’ll wear it, but only if you
promise to keep reaching for the
skies.
ORV
Indeed! With every ounce of my being!
A match forged in the heavens, Katie!

Will arranges his workspace, hand shaking slightly as he lays

He fights to stay awake, a mix of exhaustion and resolve
etched on his brow.
EXT. FORT MYERS - MILITARY TESTING GROUNDS (VIRGINIA) - DAY
KATHARINE (V.O.)
The brothers split up to cover the
trials. Orv impresses the Army in
Virginia, while Will dazzles in
France.
MINI-MONTAGE (VIRGINIA): Orv's flawless trial flights cut
through the air with precision; the military brass watching
intently.
MINI-MONTAGE (FRANCE): Will dances through the skies, his
flyer a symphony of grace. Cheering crowds gaze in
admiration, their faces painted with awe as he soars.
Will completes a dizzying loop. As he lands, Frenchmen rush
in, eager for celebratory kisses on his cheeks. Will laughs
them off, half-embarrassed.
WILL
Gentlemen, gentlemen, easy, easy!
Will’s CREW intervenes, pulling the well-wishers back.
KATHARINE (V.O)
It was now time for Orv to demonstrate
his skill in carrying the world’s
first airplane passenger.
Orv stands by the craft, his fingers brushing over the wings.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE (mid 20s), a strong, sturdy man,
approaches. He firmly grabs the propeller, surprising Orv.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE
Mr. Wright, we haven’t met yet, but
what I've seen so far is absolutely
captivating. I wager it’s even more
exhilarating from the air!
ORV
Up there, it’s beautiful, yes, but
also dangerous. My primary concern is
the safe operation of this craft.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE
As a key member of the funding
committee, I insist on flying first,
before any money trades hands.
ORV
With all due respect, Lieutenant,
you’re a bit- how shall I say, taller
than an ideal passenger.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE
Nonsense! That’s just my robust
manner! Let’s give this bird a whirl!
As Selfridge releases his hand from the wooden propeller, a
SMALL CRACK is revealed, unnoticed by the two men.
MILITARY TESTING GROUNDS - LATER
Orv steadies himself, a brief moment of reflection. He starts
the engine; it roars to life, reverberating with power.
Selfridge climbs aboard, oozing confidence.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE
Let’s see what this contraption can
do, Wright!
EXT. AIR CRAFT - DAY
The craft lurches forward, struggling to gain altitude with a
shudder. It laboriously climbs as Selfridge shouts over the
engine noise.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE
Can you give this thing more juice?
ORV
(shouting back)
Juice? It doesn’t run on juice!
The wind rushes past them, a cacophony of whirring, roaring,
and the acrid scent of burning engine oil fills the air.
Selfridge's eyes gleam with excitement as he peers down at
the crowd.
A LOUD CREAK reverberates through the craft, causing wood
pieces to splinter off. Selfridge's excitement morphs into
panic as he glances at Orv, who fights to maintain control.
LT. THOMAS SELFRIDGE
Orv! Do something!
The craft lurches violently towards a thorn tree, branches
closing in.
ORV
I am!! Brace yourself!!!
With skilled effort, Orv swerves, narrowly dodging the tree,
but the craft crashes violently, jettisoning Selfridge
through the air.
RESCUERS rush towards the wreckage- a tangle mess of wires,
metal and fabric- as frantic cries cut through the chaos.
They pull an unconscious Orv from the debris.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - FRONT PARLOR - DAY
Several LOUD KNOCKS shatter the silence. Katharine opens the
door. A serious male MILITARY OFFICER stands before her.
MILITARY OFFICER
Are you a member of the Wright family?
KATHARINE
Yes. Why?
MILITARY OFFICER
Ma’am, I’m sorry to tell you this,
but there's been a serious accident
involving your brother. You need to
leave at once.

enjoying the vast ocean view.
KATHARINE
Just think! We’ll see all the glorious
sights of Europe, and maybe even meet
bona fide royalty! Imagine me, dancing
with a prince!
ORV
I’ll remind you, sister, you have two
princes in your life already.
KATHARINE
True, but they just don’t twirl as
light as royalty might, my dear.
She gazes dreamily at the swirling sea as gulls’ cries pierce
the distant hum of the ship.
EXT. FRENCH PORT - DAY
The vibrant colors of the port are in stark contrast to the
dull grays of the Atlantic horizon. Will greets Katharine and
Orv at the port, sporting a stylish brown leather jacket.
His smile radiates joy.
ORV
(poking Will’s stomach)
I see someone’s been enjoying the
local French cuisine!
WILL
Just hop in.
They enter a horse-drawn carriage. Will notices Katharine's
hand.
WILL
Sis, do you have something to share?
She hides her hand with the ring, blushing.
KATHARINE
Oh, it’s nothing.
ORV
Hardly "nothing." Our little sister
has become an independent woman!
WILL
Really?
ORV
Yes! She’s now a paid professor of
classic languages! Happily marrying
academia over silly notions of romance-
all to a higher purpose!
EXT. PAU AIRFIELD (SOUTHERN FRANCE) - MIDDAY
As the siblings arrive, Will speaks briskly in French to the
crew. His brother and sister exchange shocked glances at his
newfound language skills.
Will walks over to the craft, and starts up the engine.
The gazing crowd grows with every flight demonstration.
MINI-MONTAGE: A dazzling array of European royalty arrives,
all adorned in grand hats that sway with their laughter.
Katharine, briefly flustered, introduces her brothers in
French.
KATHARINE
(slightly stumbling)
Mes frères, Orville et Will—
Will chuckles at her fumbled words, his eyes sparkling with
affection.
KATHARINE
Isn't it marvelous? Sure beats the
pants off Dayton!
An ITALIAN DUKE (30s), dressed exquisitely, strides toward
her, charm oozing from every gesture.
ITALIAN DUKE
Signorina Wright, your passion
captivates us all! Please join us at a
gala in your family’s honor!
KATHARINE
Oh, I don’t know...
She looks at her brothers on how to respond.
ITALIAN DUKE
I assure you it will be beyond
delightful. We seek to celebrate not
just your family, but your remarkable
spirit— your voice in this world.
KATHARINE
I’m not too sure about that...
ITALIAN DUKE
After all you’ve done, you deserve a
break from your family’s business
affairs for one elegant evening.
Katharine is hesitant, but responds.
KATHARINE
Okay, I will join you... for a dance.
But not more...
In an ornate ballroom, Katharine twirls with the Duke, both
laughing as they enjoy the music.
ITALIAN DUKE
Tell me, signorina, how does a worldly
woman like yourself spare time to
dance with me? Surely another prince
awaits?
KATHARINE
Oh, yes, I already have two.
ITALIAN DUKE
Oh, you mean your clever brothers. No,
no, no. I meant of the romantic type.
KATHARINE
Sometimes the love of family can be
stronger than one’s own selfish
pursuits.
ITALIAN DUKE
‘Tis a pity then. Such soaring
strength in you, Signorina Katharine
Wright, like an Imperial Eagle.
KATHARINE
And you, sir, are very impressive on
your feet.
Orv watches, tension mounting, as he leans into Will.
ORV
Why? Why does she feel the need to
impress? Has she really changed so
swiftly? It’s just been, what? A
month, and already she dances with
royal eyes upon her. Ugh! It's
astonishing how someone could change
so quickly! Preposterous!
Will looks at him, baffled at his concern.
WILL
She's blossoming as a strong, fiercely
independent woman. Don’t you see that?
Isn’t that what you want for her?
ORV
I just didn’t think anyone saw her
like that. But she’s still ours...
isn’t she?
The Duke twirls Katharine. She’s radiant.
WILL
Why does seeing her like this bother
you so much? Frankly, I don’t get it.
ORV
I literally can’t bear the thought of
losing you to misfortune and her to a
wandering heart. I’ll be left alone,
with nothing.
Orv clenches his jaw, striving to mask the emotional conflict
swirling within him- a storm brewing.

WILL
Really? Are you serious? You want to

KATHARINE

Her fingers fidget as she ties her dress with a rope.
A PHOTOGRAPHER captures her determination, with her boarding

WILL
Just relax, Katie, and enjoy the view.
But whatever you do, don’t touch this.
(gestures towards a wire)
That stops the motor automatically if
we need to make an emergency landing.
KATHARINE

WILL
It should! It shows you I have

As Katharine sits, she steadies her feet against a small rail
and grips a pole. Will does a final check, releasing the
lever as they gently glide down the rail.
The craft lifts off with both of them, the rumble of the
engine roaring to life- an exhilarating sound that drowns out
the world below.
Wind whips around as Katharine gasps, her eyes wide with awe
as she looks upon the countryside from above- a glorious

Will, filled with pride and affection, raises his glass.
WILL
A toast! Here’s to the Wrights— who
dared to dream. Remember that first
summer at Kitty Hawk, Orv? The way we
hit every dune in the Outer Banks?
ORV
How could I forget? You landed
face-first, and Katharine had to keep
convincing us we'd one day become real
pilots!
KATHARINE
And now look at the two of you!
ORV
We were just trying not to end up

WILL
But we did it together. Oh, little

ORV
And thank goodness there’s been no
'distractions'— meddling spouses and
their endless demands!
He gestures toward Katharine, playfully challenging her.
Katharine raises an eyebrow.
KATHARINE
Distractions? Why, I’m busy paving my
own path, thank you very much.
ORV
(softening)
Katie, it’s just... sometimes I worry
you'll fly too high. What if you

sister?
KATHARINE
That’s exactly what I want. I want to
soar, too. Nothing wrong with that!
Will places a hand on Orville's shoulder, infusing warmth
into the moment.

No matter how far you fly, we're all

As they pass a newsstand, an image of Katharine in her hobble

creating a fashion buzz.
Will's attention shifts to an article featuring him with a
charming smile, accompanied by a headline on Curtiss flying

WILL
So while we were soaring with royalty,
Curtiss has been out-maneuvering us on
land. Nice to know we have a rival!
KATHARINE

They share a knowing glance, fueled by ambition and familial

EXT. TRAIN STATION (DAYTON) - DAY
A folksy "heroes welcome" greets the Wrights outside the

children's laughter ringing out as they line up in red,
white, and blue costumes creating a massive American flag.
They change into tuxedos backstage, but then walk out. The
shy brothers can’t hide their embarrassment at the attention,
as Katharine stands off stage.
During the start of an elaborate ceremony with the MAYOR, the
brothers squirm in their ill-fitting tuxedos.
Harry Haskell pops next to her, wearing a badge saying PRESS.
KATHARINE
Oh, I wasn’t expecting to see you
here. But, how pleasant!
HARRY HASKELL
Oh, c’mon. I wouldn’t miss this! As

Thank God! Where is it?
CURTISS' WORKER
We hung it up at Wanamaker’s, just
like you asked!
EXT. WANNAMAKER'S DEPARTMENT STORE - FRONT WINDOW - DAY
Behind the glass, suspended from the ceiling, a plane with a
“Glenn Curtiss' World Famous Flyer!" sign dangling.
EXT. CURTISS HANGAR (GOVERNOR'S ISLAND, NY) - MORNING
Curtiss walks alongside a young worker, his eyes squinting
through the dense fog.
GLENN CURTISS
This fog may hide the sky, but it
won't hide my ambition. I will
compete, fog or no fog!
Curtiss spots another plane, a sleek model, and wheels it
out. He pushes it toward the island's edge.
He climbs in, starting the engine but keeps it idle. As the
last of his crew departs, he kills the engine, still
surrounded by fog.
EXT. WRIGHT HANGAR (GOVERNOR'S ISLAND, NY) - LATER
Will works on his craft, focused. A REPORTER shows up.
NEWS REPORTER
Mr. Wright! Word is Curtiss just took
off moments ago, during a break in the
fog.
WILL
Must have been quite the sight, if
anyone actually saw it.
He strides to a dock, handing a $20 bill to a BOATMAN,
pointing to a red canoe. Will picks it up and carries it off
over his head.
KATHARINE
So, what's with the canoe?
WILL
No one's ever flown over water before.
Think of it as a safety net.
EXT. NEW YORK HARBOR - BUSINESS DISTRICT - MIDDAY
The bustling crowd of New Yorkers, undeterred by the
remaining fog, makes their way to the harbor’s edge.
EXT. GOVERNOR'S ISLAND, NY - LATE AFTERNOON
The fog has lifted; patches of blue sky peek through. Will
clambers into his craft.
WILL
This is it. Today I re-write the
story.
Will signals, and the engine roars to life.

Soaring Triumph: Will's Flight Over New York
EXT. NEW YORK HARBOR - DAY
The craft gains altitude gradually, the bright red canoe
below contrasting starkly with the blue sky as he pierces
through a few scattered clouds.
ABOVE NEW YORK HARBOR - CONTINUOUS
A THRONG gathers along the water's edge. From above, the
plane's buzzing motor cuts sharply through the ambient
chatter— a wave of anticipation rises from the crowd.
Will bursts through the clouds, confidence radiating as he
executes the flight with graceful control.
The CROWD erupts into a frenzy of cheers. Children jump,
adults wave.
CROWD MEMBER #1
Look! It’s the Wright Flyer! Can you
believe it?
CROWD MEMBER #2
I never thought I’d see something like
this in my lifetime!
Will banks gracefully toward the Statue of Liberty, swirling
gently in a mesmerizing circle around her waist, then near
her raised hand holding the torch; it's a moment of triumph
captured in history.
WILL (V.O.)
They said it couldn’t be done, but
here I am. This is more than a flight;
it’s a declaration.
EXT. ELLIS ISLAND - IMMIGRATION CENTER - CONTINUOUS
A line of IMMIGRANTS, nervously awaiting their fate, gaze up
at the spectacle above. Officials flail their arms,
struggling to describe this marvel in various languages,
their faces painted with awe.
WILL'S PLANE - ABOVE HUDSON RIVER - CONTINUOUS
Will's expression is calm, yet deeply focused. Below, as
steamboats SOUND their horns as a thunderous encouragement,
creating a vibrant symphony, but also unexpected air bursts.
The air bursts jolts his craft, throwing him off balance
briefly. Fear spikes through him, but he steadies the plane
with deft movements.
Reassured, he glides north over the harbor, past towering
skyscrapers and towards the tranquil embrace of the Hudson
River lined with trees.
WILL
We're just getting started.
He flies in harmony with the elements, the sun shimmering
over the water, capturing the essence of flight and freedom.
GOVERNOR'S ISLAND - CONTINUOUS
Curtiss hastily packs his airplane into a crate, working with
a tense urgency. A swarm of PHOTOGRAPHERS envelopes him,
flashes popping in frantic succession as he shoos them away.
A loud BUZZING reverberates as Will’s plane tears through the
air, engulfing the scene. The crowd gasps and ducks as Will
swoops in dangerously low, smiling mischievously and waving a
hand at Curtiss.
WILL
Now THIS is the WRIGHT way!
Curtiss's face pales, eyes wide with frustration. He clenches
his fists, irritation boiling beneath the surface.
GLENN CURTISS
(muttering to himself)
Showboating won’t win you this war,
Will...
Will glances downward, as he soars into the sunlit horizon.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - DINING ROOM - EVENING
Orv and Will enter, laughter still echoing.
WILL
You should have seen Curtiss! It was a
crazy medley of surprise and rage!
What a show for all of New York to
see!
Bishop Wright (81), seated with a serene demeanor, lurches
forward, his eyes twinkling.
BISHOP WRIGHT
Truly, an extraordinary feat. But, I
want to see it too, in person. And...
from the air.
ORV
Excuse me, Father? You want to fly?
BISHOP WRIGHT
Yes, son. I want to embrace the
miracle you've brought to life. It
will give me an opportunity to get
even closer to the Great Creator!
WILL
Are you serious?
BISHOP WRIGHT
Absolutely! It’s time I experience
the gift you’ve brought to the world.

Soaring Ambitions
EXT. HUFFMAN PRAIRIE - MORNING
The Bishop, Will, Orv, and Katharine disembark at the train
station. They approach the field as WORK CREW wheel out a new
craft with sleek landing wheels added.
With the Bishop and Katharine watching, Will joins Orv as a
passenger for the first- and only- time they’ll share flight
duties. They soar into the sky together, completing a few
wide circles before landing gracefully.
WILL
Well done, pilot.
ORV
You too, pilot.
Next, the Bishop cautiously makes his way to join Orv.
ORV
You’re sure this is okay?
BISHOP WRIGHT
Yes, just this once. The fear of
mortality shrinks in the face of
divine adventure. And you’ve more than
proven yourselves.
Nervous, yet exhilarated, he climbs into the craft. Orv
exchanges a silent signal with Will.
The craft takes off, smooth and steady, with the elderly
passenger, who marvels at the open sky.
BISHOP WRIGHT
Higher, son, higher! Higher!
EXT. LAKE KEUKA (HAMMONDSPORT, NY) - DAY
Curtiss flies above the lake with a craft featuring distinct
modern components. He executes controlled arcs.
He releases a large object from the aircraft. It plummets 100
feet and explodes on impact— a colossal splash follows,
sending water spraying into the air.
MILITARY OBSERVERS scramble away from the shore, caught off
guard by the sudden deluge. Curtiss fires a rifle from his
plane, hitting a tin shed with a predictable CLANG.
After landing, he steps towards the MILITARY GENERALS.
MILITARY GENERAL
Curtiss, you've showcased a
considerable advancement, but we have
serious concerns about your ability to
fulfill orders. Aren’t you violating
the Wright patents?
GLENN CURTISS
Oh, nonsense. I’m here to forge a
revolutionary new weapon system. Let
the Wrights squawk all they want! They
can have their lawyers write letters,
but they don’t control the sky- I
will!

A Hard-Fought Verdict
EXT. WRIGHT HOUSE - FRONT PATIO - NIGHT
Will crawls up to the edge of the front steps, exhausted from
an arduous journey. He heaves himself onto the porch,
dropping his luggage with a thud. A worried Orv bursts
through the door, clutching a letter.
ORV
Oh good. I’m relieved you’re home.
You'll never believe what I received.
Just look—
(reading from the letter)
"...wing warping has been around
since the time of Leonardo da Vinci-
well before it was incorporated into
your machine. What has been truly
warped is your usually sound judgment,
blinded by your boundless pursuit of
great wealth!"
WILL
"Great wealth," huh?
He bends over to remove his shoes, filled with holes.
INT. COURTROOM - DAY
The patent case begins with their attorney Harry Toulmin
representing the brothers.
JUDGE HOWARD
And where is the defendant, Mr.
Curtiss?
HARRY TOULMIN
Your Honor, evading the jurisdiction
of the U.S. Courts, presently in
Canada.
INT. WRIGHT BICYCLE SHOP - NIGHT
Will stands by the window, staring at the night sky.
WILL
Ever think it would come to this?
ORV
What? Our battles over patents, or
getting off the ground in the first
place?
WILL
Both, I suppose. If I harken back to
our first glider- just the two of us.
Crafting our dreams from scraps. We’ve
come too far to have this taken from
us.
ORV
Back then— just you and me— everything
was simpler, wasn’t it?
WILL
Yes, but we didn’t take the easy route
then, and we won’t today.
INT. COURTROOM - DAYS LATER
BAILIFF
All rise. The Honorable Judge
Howard will now render his verdict.
The courtroom hangs in suspense, eyes fixed on the judge.
JUDGE HOWARD
In the matter of Wright v. Curtiss, I
have reached my decision. Let me be
perfectly clear on this point. Without
a doubt, the Wright Brothers of
Dayton, Ohio did invent- and patent-
the basic system of aeronautic control
used in practically every airplane in
use today.
Soft applause fills the room, but quickly quiets.
JUDGE HOWARD
HOWEVER, this court rules that Mr.
Curtiss and the Curtiss Aeroplane
Company, along with all other third
parties, can continue to use the
applicable patent designs as they deem
fit without limits of this court.
Gasps ripple through the courtroom.
JUDGE HOWARD
The Wright brothers have forfeited
much of their patent rights due to the
large amount of details and photos
distributed widely to the scientific
community by Mr. Octave Chanute.
Silence envelops the courtroom.
JUDGE HOWARD
I’m sorry to say, gentlemen, but your
patent claims are simply not
enforceable due to widespread
disclosure by a well-meaning
associate.
Will shuts his eyes briefly. Orv's hand finds his shoulder,
grounding him.
ORV
It may feel like a loss, but it's not
the end. Our invention— our journey—
it's still ours. We still own it.

INT. BOSTON RESTAURANT - EVENING
Will sits at a table surrounded by BUSINESSMEN, their mirth
contrasting with his subdued presence.
BOORISH BUSINESSMAN #1
Mr. Wright, let's toast to new
beginnings! Raise your glass!
Will stretches for his glass of milk, but BOORISH BUSINESSMAN
#2 thumps it down, swapping it for a glass of scotch.
BOORISH BUSINESSMAN #2
To the dawn of a new era in Wright
aviation— your vision is about to take
flight!
A lavish platter of oysters is set before Will.
WILL
I hope the waters around here are...
clean?
(pauses)
I caught something about it in the
papers recently.
BOORISH BUSINESSMAN #1
You had time to read? With all those
numbers you pore over? Come now! It’s
common knowledge that New England
oysters are the finest!
WILL
Honestly, I’m not that hungry...
BOORISH BUSINESSMAN #2
Nonsense! Mr. Wright, I’ve walked away
from bigger offers when my partners
didn’t appreciate local hospitality.
Will reluctantly takes an oyster, chokes it down, then
follows with a gulp of scotch. He gags, coughing harshly.
BOORISH BUSINESSMAN #1
A man of historic bravery, eh?
Will forces a smile, though tension hangs in his eyes.
WILL
To a fault...
INT. HOTEL ROOM (BOSTON) - MORNING
Will awakens to a distorted world, light filters through
heavy curtains. He groans, swinging his legs over the bed.
WILL
Just... need some water.
He rises, miscalculating his footing and knocking over a
lamp. The crash jolts him; he grimaces, the hardwood floor
biting against him.
WILL
Not... the best start.
INT. TRAIN CAR - DAY
Will sits in First Class, the rhythmic clatter of the wheels
briefly shakes him from his stupor. Outside, the landscape
races by— a blur of green and brown.
Will fights the urge to succumb to sleep; his eyelids droop.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - DAY
Will shuffles in, shoulders heavy with the weight of silence.
Orv and Katharine rush over, their faces alight with concern.
ORV
Will! It’s great to see you. You look,
um— are you okay?
WILL
I’m... coming down with something bad.
ORV
Well, I've got great news that might
cheer you up! We’ve secured the
seventeen acres for Hawthorn Hill!
Room to breathe! Indoor plumbing!
KATHARINE
We’re what?
Will’s tired gaze shifts from Orv to Katharine.
WILL
Orv thought— well, we thought it might
be best for us to live closer
together, but in a bigger place.
ORV
Think of it, Katie. A united family
under one roof with room to spare!
It’s what we’ve always dreamed!
Katharine’s expression clouds with uncertainty.
KATHARINE
But... what does that mean for
ourselves, Orv?
ORV
It means growth! We’ll create a
bigger, happier home!
KATHARINE
This is your dream, not mine.
Her voice falters, revealing her internal conflict.
KATHARINE
I need some... air.
ORV
Just think about it, Katie. Our new
slice of heaven— together!
Orv beams as Katharine steps away, her discomfort palpable,
leaving Will looking at the tension between them.

Will attempts to walk on the pebble terrain, but his legs
shake. He rests on a stump, breathless, gazing upwards. A
majestic hawk swoops down, perching on a nearby branch, its
sharp eyes surveying the area.
WILL
Orv, this is beautiful. One day... our
whole family. But for now, can you
bring me back home? I need rest.
ORV
Of course, Will.
INT. WRIGHT HOUSE - WILL’S ROOM - NIGHT
Will lies in bed, drenched in sweat. Shadows dance on the

DOCTOR
I regret to say, but I suspect he’s in
the mid-stages of typhus.
Grave silence blankets them as they move to Will’s bedside.

HENRY TOULMIN
With the final appeal won, we can now
push to defend our patents
aggressively.
BUSINESSMAN
Now’s the chance for a monopoly- like
Bell did with his telephone!
Orv stands, but his demeanor is resolute.
ORV
Gentlemen, I refuse to monopolize the
air above us. My brother believed in
innovation for the benefit of all, not
just for profit. Let’s allow
manufacturers to use our designs for a
small royalty. Except for Glenn
Curtiss! He can’t use any of it. That
decision is final and absolute!
The men leave as Orv’s words linger. Katharine joins him on
the porch, sadness across her face.
KATHARINE
These victories... they don’t feel the
same without Will, do they?
ORV
No, they don’t.
KATHARINE
And to think of all the time he spent

HANK THE MAILMAN
Hi, Katherine! A letter from Mr.
Haskell. It might just brighten

Her hand rushes out, excitement flickering.

Katharine gasps.
HARRY HASKELL (V.O.)
“Their goal is to crow that 'The Great
Aerodrome' was the first craft CAPABLE

brothers' patents, and declare Samuel
Langley as the 'Father of Winged
Flight.' This is a direct attack on
Will’s legacy."

the original Aerodrome.
EXT. LAKE KEUKA - SHORE - SAME
Lorin sneaks around the lake in the grasses, taking photos.
The craft takes off the tracks on the houseboat, and remains
in flight for barely a second or two. Lorin continues to snap
photos. A forceful hand pulls at his shoulder.
CURTISS CREW MEMBER
You can give me that film now.
LORIN
I was just observing this fascinating

CURTISS CREW MEMBER

Lorin reluctantly hands the film in his camera over to him,

She sets down the letter.
CARRIE
You have also received an overture

A Moment of Connection in the Garden
EXT. THE WHITE HOUSE - WEEKS LATER - DAY
In the elegant gardens, Katharine (late 40s), radiant in a
bright white gown and a large plumed hat, stands beside Orv
(late 40s), engaged in a formal visit with PRESIDENT WILLIAM
HOWARD TAFT (50s).
The laughter of the press corps echoes around them, a moment

During an informal photo op, Harry Haskell (late 40s) appears
from behind the press corps, his “PRESS” badge gleaming on
his suit.
KATHARINE
Harry!
PRESIDENT TAFT
It appears you two have met before.
HARRY HASKELL

EXT. WHITE HOUSE GARDENS - MOMENTS LATER

away with Harry along a sun-dappled path.
KATHARINE
I can’t believe it! How did you get in

HARRY HASKELL
Well, being a newspaper man has its
privileges. Katie, it’s very good to
see you again, really.
He hesitates, glancing away, the joy in his eyes dimming.
KATHARINE
What is it, Harry?
HARRY HASKELL
Isabel has... passed away.
Katharine's expression softens, the weight of his words
hanging in the air.
KATHARINE
Oh no, I’m so sorry. Are you okay?
HARRY HASKELL
Yes, I am. Her passing was... a
blessing in many ways— quick,
peaceful. But the silence now, it's
crushing.
Katharine instinctively touches a blooming flower nearby, its
vibrant petals contrasting the somber moment.
KATHARINE
You need a change of scenery. Come
back to Dayton with me and Orv! We’ll
have a splendid time.
HARRY HASKELL
(forcing a smile)
Sounds nice. But, you know, Isabel
never did care much for our tandem
bicycle... Maybe it’s time for someone
else to give it a spin.
KATHARINE
I certainly could use the company- and
a lift.
HARRY HASKELL
The suffrage work, right?
KATHARINE
(nodding, warmth
returning)
Yes. And it's more important than
ever. It requires heart, Harry—
something I know we've both been
missing lately.
As they share a moment of mutual understanding, the laughter
from the press corps fades into the distance, and the garden
feels more intimate, filled with possibility.
HARRY HASKELL
After dinner tonight at the
Smithsonian, I’ll come with you.

A Flight of Discontent
INT. SMITHSONIAN CASTLE - EVENING
Above the large ballroom hangs a banner: "Pioneers in Flight
Awards". The room buzzes softly. Orv stares blankly at the
stage, fidgeting in his seat next to Katharine at the far end
of the head table.
CHARLES WOLCOTT (50s), a solemn, bald man, as Secretary of
the Smithsonian, hands an award to an eccentric fellow.
WOLCOTT
Thank you for your contributions to
aviation, particularly your ground
breaking work in sanitation, creating
the first working toilet on an
aircraft. Quite the “flushing”
advancement, indeed!
Orv forces a strained smile. Wolcott catches Katharine's
glance and gives a signal.
WOLCOTT
Before we proceed to the main event, I
would like to take a moment to
recognize a key figure of an
extraordinary team- Mr. Orvin Wright.
Orv flinches at his name’s mispronunciation.
WOLCOTT
Please, Mr. Wright, stand.
He rises slowly, with every eye in the room fixated upon him.
WOLCOTT
The Smithsonian is proud to honor your
groundbreaking journey in flight. Your
extensive glider experiments in the
dunes of Kitty Hawk paved the future
of aviation.
Light applause trickles in; Orv approaches the podium,
accepts a medal around his neck. He turns away without
uttering a word, and returns to his seat.
WOLCOTT
You bike builders sure ruffled some
feathers with that kite of yours!
Wolcott chuckles lightly, pulling polite laughter from the
audience.
WOLCOTT
Now, for the main event- the
reason we’ve gathered here
tonight, I invite the
distinguished Dr. Alexander Graham
Bell to join me at the podium.
Wolcott scans the room.
WOLCOTT
Are you around, Alex, or are you
making a phone call?
Polite laughter reverberates through the audience, as
Alexander Graham Bell strides to the podium.
ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL
With a heavy heart, I must acknowledge
someone who couldn't be with us
tonight, but is surely looking down
with pride from above.
A hush blankets the room, eyes drawn towards a large
illuminated PAINTING OF LANGLEY looming over them.
ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL
It is my privilege to announce the
Smithsonian's formal recognition of
the first airplane CAPABLE of
sustained free flight, awarded
posthumously to...
(pausing for effect)
...the late, great Samuel Pierpont
Langley and his Great Aerodrome!
As the curtain drops, revealing the Aerodrome on a houseboat,
confusion reverberates through the audience- a few polite
claps mingled with murmurs of disbelief.
Orv remains seated, shock casting a shadow on his face, hands
trembling in his lap. Katharine clinches her fists.
KATHARINE
It’s okay, brother. We all know you
deserve so much better than being a
footnote to someone else’s story!
Orv looks up, anger boiling beneath the surface.
ORV
No, it's not okay, Katie. We are
leaving for Dayton- away from this
public mockery!
Orv's face reveals a mixture of anger and hurt, while the
audience stares, some with sympathy, others whispering.

Divided Priorities
EXT. MAIN STREET (DAYTON, OH) - DAY
The streets are alive with hundreds of spectators. Suffrage
protesters, dressed in white, march in unison. The Wright
family— Katharine, Lorin, Bishop, and Harry— hold the banner
aloft. The crowd erupts in applause as they come into view.
A FEMALE SUFFRAGE SUPPORTER hops off the curb, approaching
the family. She extends her hand to Lorin.
FEMALE SUFFRAGE SUPPORTER

FEMALE SUFFRAGE SUPPORTER

Katharine's irritation bubbles over as Orv’s absence gnaws at

KATHARINE
No, not him either! Apparently, there

not sure what, though!
INT. WRIGHT’S HAWTHORN HILL HOUSE - EARLY EVENING
Katharine enters the workshop, still clad in her white parade

KATHARINE
You were missed sorely today.
ORV
I simply lost track of time, you know

up well for the cause. And hopefully,
the banner made quite a statement.
KATHARINE
That’s not what matters, Orv! Why is
it always my important moments that

battles!
ORV
I’m sorry. I just... there are
priorities I can’t ignore. Women will

KATHARINE
But it does matter! This isn’t just

generations to wonder why the men in
their lives weren’t on the front lines

A Heart Divided
EXT. CLIFFS ABOVE MIAMI RIVER (DAYTON) - DAY
The crisp Fall air fills the scene as Katharine (50) and
Harry hike up to the summit, their breath visible in the
chill. As they reach the top, the breathtaking view of the
radiant river sprawls below them.
HARRY HASKELL
What a sight... the most spectacular
I’ve seen in my life.
KATHARINE
It truly is mesmerizing.
HARRY HASKELL
No, Katie. I mean you. From the moment
we met, I sensed your brilliance, your
deep beauty. It’s only recently I've
dared to hope of calling you mine.
He kneels before her, the sunlight glinting off a small ring
tucked in his pocket- a glimmer of hope in his eyes.
HARRY HASKELL
My dear, precious Katharine, will you
give me the honor of becoming my wife?
Katharine’s eyes fill with joy at first.
KATHARINE
Oh, Harry! This is... wonderful!
HARRY HASKELL
So that’s a “yes”?
Her smile falters as she looks away.
KATHARINE
I’m saying. I’m saying I don’t know.
HARRY HASKELL
But what do you mean, "I don’t know"?
Her gaze drifts to the cliffs’ edge.
KATHARINE
Long ago, my brothers and I made a vow-
a solemn promise to be there for one
another. It binds us still.
HARRY HASKELL
That’s nonsense! You’re serious?
KATHARINE
I am. I can't betray Orv, Harry.
He would be heartbroken beyond belief.
(pausing, vulnerable)
Through everything- loss and triumph-
we’ve been each other’s beacons. I
love him, despite his faults. But also
I know your goodness, too.
(beat)
I deserve to have every happiness in
my life- especially after all I’ve
sacrificed.
HARRY HASKELL
Then we’ll keep it a secret- just
between us. I’ve waited too long,
Katie. I won’t lose you, not to anyone-
especially not your brother.
Katharine’s expression shifts, caught between fear and love,
but she can’t suppress a small, bittersweet smile.
INT. WRIGHT’S HAWTHORN HILL HOUSE - ORV'S BEDROOM - DAY
An animated and irritated Orv packs a suitcase, while
Katharine gazes out the window at the backyard.
ORV
I can’t emphasize this enough, Katie.
A stellar impression at the Aero
Club of New York is everything. I have
to show them- the Smithsonian is
simply mistaken. Will and I, we are
the visionaries here!
KATHARINE
And the evidence for this grand
statement is... what?
ORV
With evidence! Photographs,
testimonials! We’re not just some
forgotten names.
We’ve strived and fought with honor
and integrity— something that’s been
lacking lately!
His sharp look at Katharine cuts deeper than intended.
Orv storms past her, out of the room. In his haste, he leaves
his briefcase. Katharine hears the FRONT DOOR SLAM O.S. She
glances outside to see Orv hastily climb into the back of the
car. Once he drives off, she rushes to peer out the window.
Poking out behind a tree is Harry with a mischievous grin.
Katharine makes a distinctive bird call. Harry mimics it
back, their playful bond evident.
He sneaks in through the back door, and they embrace,
laughter mingling with joy.
EXT. DAYTON TRAIN STATION - DAY
Orv rummages through his pockets, frantic and worried. He
calls out to his driver.
ORV
Edwards! I can’t do this alone! Help!
He scrambles back into the vehicle, his mind elsewhere.

Betrayal in the Foyer
INT. WRIGHT’S HAWTHORN HILL HOUSE - FOYER - DAY
Katharine and Harry share a moment by the staircase.
HARRY HASKELL
It’s surreal, isn’t it? A whole week
just for us!
KATHARINE
Every moment apart, I feel a part of
me gone.
In the open doorway, Orv steps in, his silhouette darkening
the room. He overhears their intimacy, shifting from
confusion to betrayal.
ORV
What exactly is going on here? In MY
home! I thought we had a sacred bond,
Katie!
KATHARINE
Please, Orv. Just... just listen. I’m
trying to navigate this maze. It’s not
just a simple moment; it’s about my
life moving forward. Harry and I were
just...
ORV
Just what? “Harry and I” were what?
KATHARINE
Harry and I... we share something...
significant. I care about him deeply.
In fact, we love each other
Orv's disbelief turns to anger.
ORV
Love? You barely know each other!
KATHARINE
I do! This isn't just a schoolgirl
fling. I’m a half-century old! Look at
me- I’m a gray-haired spinster! At
this age, I’m lucky enough for anyone
to love me- and we have years of
shared memories, dreams we’ve woven
together. I've cared about him my
whole life!
ORV
And what of the tapestry we’ve
stitched together, Katie? You’re going
to rip that apart.
KATHARINE
I love you, too, Bubbo. I always have
and always will! But things are...
complicated now.
ORV
Complicated? No, you’ve betrayed me.
Simple as that. You’ve crossed a line!
Harry steps forward.
HARRY HASKELL
Enough of this nonsense, Orv. It’s
time to face facts. It’s not just
about you anymore.
Their eyes lock.
HARRY HASKELL
I’ve had a deep love for Katharine my
whole life, and I can’t go back.
ORV
Now the two of you are ganging up on
me! This has to end!
HARRY HASKELL
It’s not going to- not in a way you
want.
Harry turns to Katharine.
HARRY HASKELL
Are you going to tell him, or do I
have to?
ORV
Tell me what?
HARRY HASKELL
I've had a special place in my heart
for Katharine for as long as I can
remember. I can't imagine living
another day without her.
ORV
Now you’re being dramatic.
HARRY HASKELL
I am taking your sister's hand in
marriage, and we’re moving to Kansas
City. I hope to have your approv- your
blessings.
ORV
You think you can just waltz into our
home with no regard for family? Cast
aside what we mean to each other?
Orv pivots back to Katharine, bitterness in every word.
ORV
You know, I’ve given up the chance of
a mate to be bound with you!
(beat)
And what about family? Your father,
your late brother- they’d turn in
their graves- ashamed, ashamed of this
gross betrayal.
The tension escalates as he delivers the final blow.
ORV
Congratulations, Harry. You’ve won.
Take her. Take her far away. I don’t
want her in my life anymore. I’m
already drowning in enough deceit, and
I certainly don’t need it from my own
family. But please know, if you choose
to leave here, you’ll cease to exist
for me.
Katharine’s eyes glisten with unshed tears.
KATHARINE
Don’t test my loyalty, Little Brother.
You may not like the results.
They lock eyes.
ORV
Enough. I have a train to catch. When
I return, I’ll expect both of you to
have thought this through, thoroughly.
Carrie! Help me with my things!
Orv storms out. Carrie looks on, but remains hidden, silent.
KATHARINE
Orv, please...
Harry squeezes her hand, as she holds back tears.
HARRY HASKELL
Leave him. Just give him time. He’ll
come around. He’s a rational person.
They stand in the doorway, grief swirling around them.

Fractured Bonds
EXT. HAWTHORN HILL HOUSE - FRONT PORCH - MORNING
Orv sits in his favorite rocking chair, the gentle creak of
the wood flooring breaking the silence. The newspaper in his
hands flutters open, revealing a headline: "Another Court
Case Filed Against Orville Wright". He looks up, staring.
EXT. LARGE STATELY GARDEN (OBERLIN COLLEGE) - LATE AFTERNOON
A few friends attend the wedding, but no family. Harry stands
in a black suit near a gazebo with an OFFICIANT. Katharine
appears in a plain new suit, carrying white carnations with
sprigs of holly, as she walks down the aisle.
HARRY HASKELL
You look simply radiant. Are you ready
for this, finally?
KATHARINE
As ready as anything in my life.
HARRY HASKELL
Good. I am too. Should we wait a
little longer? In case you-know-who
shows up.
KATHARINE
Are you kidding me? He wouldn't be
here in a million years. Let’s begin.
EXT. HAWTHORN HILL HOUSE - FRONT PORCH - WINTER
Orv’s rocker creaks as Carrie approaches with the day's mail.
CARRIE
Sir, two letters for you. One from Mr.
Henry Ford, requesting to move the old
family home and workshop to Michigan
as a part of his new outdoor museum of
America’s greatest inventors.
Orv’s expression hardens as he processes the news, his jaw
tightening.
ORV
And the second?
CARRIE
I don’t think you want to hear it.
ORV
Go on.
CARRIE
Your sister sent a letter. She's
married now and planning an extended
trip to Europe with Mr. Haskell. She
sends her best.
Orv scoffs bitterly, his body tensing.
ORV
Her best. What does that even mean? A
postcard with my name on it while she
gallivants to live her private fairy
tale?
Carrie steps closer, concern etched across her face.
CARRIE
She loves you deeply. You know this.
ORV
Love. It's easy to talk about love
when you’ve packed up your heart and
run away.
He shakes his head, standing up, the chair rocking empty.
CARRIE
Shall I respond?
ORVILLE
No. She'll come to her senses
eventually. She always has. She knows
family comes first. And you can tell
Ford he can have that old house and
shop. They don't mean anything to me
anymore...
He walks to the edge of the porch, looking past the barren
trees.
CARRIE
You’re not alone, Mr. Wright. We are
all here for you- your brothers,
friends.
ORV
That’s not enough Carrie. Sometimes I
wonder if this so-called family bond
was really just a ruse.
CARRIE
You should reach out. She’s still your
sister. Let her know she matters to
you.
Orv’s eyes narrow, the internal struggle palpable.
ORV
Clearly, she’s chosen her own path...
far away from here. And if any more
reporters inquire about her
involvement with our flying success,
tell them it’s all fictitious. She
wasn’t really there when we needed
her...
Silence hangs heavy in the air.

INT. HASKELL HOUSE (KANSAS CITY) - BEDROOM - DAY

anxiety runs through her hands as she fidgets with her
clothes.
KATHARINE
Since we're starting in Italy
and Greece...
(she coughs again)
...it’s crucial we pack both
walking shoes and dress-up...
(her voice falters)
You know, for those romantic dinners
in Florence.
HARRY HASKELL
Well, you always know best, Miss World
Traveler. But, are you sure about
this trip?
Katharine finally meets his gaze, the weight of her health
pressing down on her.
KATHARINE
I can’t help trying to make up for
lost time. It’s all we have.
Harry reaches out, gently brushing back a stray hair from her
forehead, his eyes lingering with unspoken worry.
EXT. HASKELL HOME (KANSAS CITY) - DAY
A car idles in the snow-covered driveway. Harry approaches
the DRIVER with reluctant steps, glancing back toward the
house.
HARRY HASKELL
Thank you for waiting, but I'm afraid
we won't be needing your services

His voice trembles as he turns back, hearing Katharine's
COUGH O.S., deeper and more raspy than before.
INT. HAWTHORN HILL HOUSE - PARLOR - DAY
Lorin visits Orv wearing a heavy winter coat. He lets himself
in the front door, to see Orv engrossed in a scale model of
their flyer.
ORV
Oh, hey there. Don’t mind me. Just
reminiscing about better times.
LORIN
Orv, I need to have a serious talk
with you about our sister.
ORV
Really? That’s rich.
LORIN
You must visit her. I fear she may not
have much time left.
ORV
Nonsense. Katie’s tougher than a pack
of wild mules. Everyone who’s run up
against her knows it.
LORIN
Even the strongest among us have
weaknesses. She needs you now. It's
serious- acute pneumonia. You need to
see her before it’s too late.
ORV
Too late? That’s dramatic, isn’t it?
Perhaps it’s another scheme to make me
yield to her every whim.
LORIN
No, it’s not, I’m sorry to say. Get
out of your funk, and go see her. It
may be your last chance.
INT. HASKELL HOME - PARLOR - EVENING
Harry walks alone in a dimly lit room, framed photos of
Katharine smiling with a bicycle on a European street hang on
the walls. He closes his eyes, lost in memories.
Her COUGH echoes from upstairs. Harry looks up, pained and
helpless.
INT. TRAIN CAR - DAY
Passengers recognize Orv. A YOUNG BOY fights with a YOUNG
GIRL.
YOUNG BOY
Quit it!
YOUNG GIRL
No, you quit it!
Orv gazes out, a frozen pond in view-- a flash of memories.
MINI-MONTAGE: Orv and Katie playing in the snow, laughter
echoing, Young Orv and Katie twirling each other on the ice.
YOUNG KATHARINE
Don’t let go!
YOUNG ORV
I won’t...
The laughter fades, leaving only the faint sound of wind
howling outside.
BACK TO PRESENT
DAY
Orv notices a young couple nearby, chatting loudly. He clears

Harry opens the door, his eyes vacant.
ORV
Hello, Harry. It’s good to see you.
First time visiting Kansas City-
though I wish it were under happier
circumstances. How have you been?
HARRY HASKELL
What do you mean, how am I? Don’t you

ORV

HARRY’s voice cracks, loss spilling out.
HARRY HASKELL
We’re losing Katie... There’s not much

Harry breaks down as Orv drops his luggage, utter disbelief
across his face.
INT. HASKELL HOUSE - BEDROOM - EARLY EVENING
The small, dimly lit room is filled with the flickering light
of a bedside lamp. A gentle breeze wafts through the open
window, rustling the lace curtains. Katharine lies in bed,
her breathing labored, her face pale and gaunt. A few family
photos adorn the bedside table, accompanied by a vase of
withered flowers.
Orv sits at the edge of the bed, clutching his sister's hand.
His eyes are red and puffy, a testament to his sorrow. He
gazes at her, voice trembling.
ORV
(voice cracking)
My dearest Katie... I don't know where
to begin.
Katharine weakly turns her head, offering a reassuring smile.
KATHERINE
(whispering)
Start wherever you need to, Orv.
Orv takes a deep breath, gathering his thoughts.
ORV
I've been a fool, Katie. I pushed you
away when you needed me the most.
I thought it was for the best, but I
was wrong. So wrapped up in my own
dreams, I lost sight of what you were
sacrificing.
A tear rolls down his cheek, which he wipes away with a shaky
hand.
ORV
You've always been there for us, from
the very beginning. All those long
nights working in the shop, testing,
failing, trying again... We couldn't
have done it without you. Your
support, your sacrifices- everything.
Katharine's eyes well up with tears, but she remains silent,
listening.
ORV
When we were lauded as heroes,
pioneers, it felt hollow without you.
None of it mattered if you weren't
there to share it with us. I'm so
sorry, Katharine. I should have been
there for you, just as you were always
there for our family.
Orv leans in closer, his voice a desperate plea.
ORV
Please, forgive me. I need to hear you
say it...
Katharine gently squeezes his hand, her voice barely audible.
KATHERINE
My dear Bubbo, I forgave you long ago.
I know your heart. I know your
intentions. You've always been my
hero, and always will be.
Orv's face contorts with grief and relief, and he buries his
face in Katharine's hand, sobbing.
ORV
(muffled)
Thank you, my dearest Katie. I love
you.
Katherine manages a faint smile.
KATHERINE
I love you too. Always. The great
Wrights who could do no wrong.
The room falls silent, the only sound the rustling of the
curtains and Orv's muffled sobs.
INT./EXT. DAYTON - CAR - EARLY EVENING
On his journey back to Hawthorn Hills from the train station,
Orv passes their old family home and workshop- now just
vacant sandy lots.
ORV
(to DRIVER)
Stop the car.
He stumbles out, struggling against the cold, once-familiar
ground now alien underfoot.
Orv stands before the barren lot where memories once thrived.
A fleeting whisper of children's laughter echos through the
air, quickly snuffed out by the winter’s chill.
He gazes at the remains of what was: white picket fence
toppled over, tombstones once used for a printing press,
bicycle parts, and pieces of the glider lying abandoned.
He turns back slowly, sadness reaching deeper into his
features as he boards the car.
ORV

Aviation's Silent Betrayal
INT. HAWTHORN HILLS - ORV’S STUDY - EARLY EVENING
Orv returns home to an empty house, the silence oppressive.
The only sound is the TICKING of a grandfather’s clock.
He glances at his cluttered desk, his eyes falling on an
envelope from the Curtiss Manufacturing Company. With a sharp
inhale, he rips it open.
LETTER: "...an offer to purchase your last remaining shares
of the Wright Aeronautical Company."
His hands tremble slightly as he opens another letter, this
one from the Smithsonian.
ORV
"...final decision to recognize Samuel
Langley as the inventor of the first
heavier-than-air craft capable of
flight."
He lets out a heavy sigh, disappointment on his face.
ORV
"Capable." What does that even mean?
There’s plenty of things I’m “capable”
of. Doesn't mean I actually did it.
How can they claim authority without
ever touching the sky?
He limps through the dim parlor, leaning heavily on his cane.
Dust motes dance in the fading sunlight.
His eyes lock on a propeller toy on the shelf. Anger surges,
and he strikes it violently with his cane, sending it
spiraling through the air.
ORV
What do you think of that,
Smithsonian?! Was that also “capable”
of flight?
A dark chuckle escapes him, bitter and raw.
ORV
Of course it was- except this one
didn’t end up at the bottom of the
Potomac!
His scans the room, wrathful, in search of more targets.
His gaze lands on a photograph: the brothers with Chanute at
the dunes, young faces brimming with promise.
ORV
You, Octave. You had the knowledge,
the vision, yet couldn't see the
answers in front of you, as we did.
(beat)
Yet you shared our secrets with the
world like they were your own,
benefiting everyone but us. What a
cruel joke this is.
He drags himself to his desk, his hands shaking as he lifts
Curtiss’ offer letter.
ORV
Ah, Curtiss. You’ll finally achieve
what you've wanted: riches and
recognition. You think it’s worth it,
but their fleeting rise will abandon
you.
He takes a breath, before resolve hardens his expression. He
hastily signs beneath the words: "the merging of Wright
Aeronautical with the Curtiss Aeroplane Company to form the
Curtiss-Wright Corporation."
ORV
And now it’s official. You’ve won.
Everyone has won- except for me. Here
I stand, defiled, betrayed, and cast
aside.
Despair washes over him. He breaks down, slumping against the
desk.
A fleeting memory rushes in: Will, laughing, crafted wings
from scraps, their faces lit with hope as they took to the
air together.
Orv's expression shifts, a fire igniting within him. He
scrambles to his feet, urgency no longer a choice but a
necessity.
ORV
The Smithsonian needs to learn a big
lesson about true pioneers! Imagine
their surprise when they learn the
most significant piece of aviation
history is finding a welcome home
in... Great Britain! Ha!!
He hastily loads remnants of the historic flyer into crates,
slapping large mailing labels on them: "London Science
Museum, London, England."
He finally collapses atop the crates, the darkness of the
room enveloping him.
INT. HAWTHORN HILLS - PARLOR - NEXT MORNING
Orv stirs awake on the floor, disoriented. He leans against
the plush carpet beside a bookshelf. A cracked glass frame
holds a photograph of the glider soaring against the sky,
with Will grinning.
Orv gazes at the photo, lost in thought, bittersweet memories
rushing back—laughter, dreams shared, and a bond that once
felt unbreakable. His eyes glisten with sorrow.
He steadies himself with a deep breath, retrieval of his cane
slow but deliberate. Determination glints in his eyes.
Orv approaches the large crates piled in a corner. Picking up
an oversized marker, he scrawls shipping labels: "Mr. Bill
Tate, Kitty Hawk, NC," mantra-like, each repetition
sharpening his intent.
ORV
They’ll have to wait a bit longer for
the world's first genuine aeroplane.

EXT. KITTY HAWK DUNES - DAY
Orv steps onto the familiar sandscape, the coarse grains
shifting beneath his feet. The salty breeze whips at his
clothes, mingling with the distant roar of waves crashing
against the shore. He gazes over the dunes, where memories
shimmer like a mirage.
A FIGURE emerges in the hazy distance. It's Tom Tate, now a
man in his 40s, sporting a familiar tuff of hair sticking up
and an easy smile.
TOM TATE
We heard you were coming! Welcome
back, Mr. Wright.
ORV
Good to be back, Tom. Or should I call
you Tator? Believe it, or not, I was
starting to miss this big ol' sandbox.
They share a firm handshake. They begin to walk side by side,
the sound of footsteps crunching on the sand fills the air.
An aged Bill Tate (70s) appears, slowly traversing a dune
with deliberate steps- slow, but purposeful.
BILL TATE
Need a hand?
ORV
Gladly. Just like old times, Bill.
Remember the winds back then? Almost
took us all to the next town!
Bill chuckles, the warmth of their history enveloping the
moment. The three men kneel down, gathering parts to piece
together the flyer.
BILL TATE
It’s almost like he’s here with us,
isn’t it?
Orv pauses, the weight of nostalgia setting over him. His
expression turns somber.
ORV
Every adjustment I make feels like
he’s guiding my hands.
Completing the assembly, Bill raises a red flag to summon the
lifeguard station.
With determination, the men maneuver to haul the craft up a
steep dune.
Sweat beads on Orv's forehead, the sun's heat mixing with the
adrenaline coursing through him. He surveys the machine's
familiar outline, feeling the ghosts of past failures and
triumphs.
He struggles to climb into the craft. Once positioned, he
hesitates, uncertainty flashing across his face.
ORV
Let’s do this.
Tom and Bill exchange a resolute nod, their faces marked by a
shared understanding of the stakes involved. They sprint
alongside as the craft gains momentum, their breaths
synchronized, their pasts intertwining in this very moment.
The craft catches the wind— lifting beautifully for a heart-
stopping second— when suddenly it veers off course, crashing
into the sand with a deafening THUD.
Chaos erupts around Orv. Dust and grit envelop him, and he
lies motionless, the world blurring around his vision.
The ONLOOKERS gasp, the sound momentarily muted by the roar
of the ocean. Orv remains still, his face pressed into the
warm sand. A vision of Will appears in the distance— a young
man, full of life, reminiscent of their early days in the
workshop.
ORV
You can’t give up now.
The vision fades. Struggling, he rises, brushing sand and
splintered wood from his body, summoning all his strength to
lift the flyer.
ORV
Please help me!
Tom and Bill rush to his side. Six hands lift the piece of
their legacy back toward the launch site—h armony among
shared pain.
As they walk, Orv glances back at the dunes, whispering.
ORV
My family’s dreams can’t die. I won’t
let it end like this.

ORV
Well, Tom, it’s now or never. I didn’t

Tom re-starts the engine. The contraption lurches forward off

The craft rattles violently, lifting off the ground but
sputtering as it threatens to stall.
ORV
Just like before. You've got this.
MONTAGE - PAST AND PRESENT
1878: A young Orv, with Will and Katie, watch as their toy
propeller spins wildly, the sound of their laughter rising.
PRESENT: The craft steadies slightly, Orv's hands gripping
the levers like a lifeline.
1902: A twenty-something Will, breathless with excitement,
turns to Orv, shouting above the wild boar chase.
WILL (V.O.)
Remember, Orv! It’s all in how you
handle it— like flying!
PRESENT: Orv's determination returns, his grip on the levers
firming.
1909: Katharine’s eyes widen with wonder as Will takes her
hand before her maiden flight, a moment of overflowing joy.
PRESENT: A wind gust surges, catching under the wings,
lifting him higher.
Orv feels the rush of air as the craft finally glides. He
clenches the controls, confidence surging within him, soaring
above the breathtaking dunes.
The craft hangs momentarily in the air, Orv's shoes
overhanging from the back of the wingspan.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
Man has finally triumphed over the age-
old challenges of flight. There’s no
singular reason for our ascension—
just a tapestry of hopes, ingenuity,
and relentless pursuits, bound by an
enduring loving bond.
Every time we rise, we wrestle with
the very forces that seek to pull us
down.
FLASHBACK: In a dim cave, the children, surrounded by
flickering candlelight, their arms around each other, whisper
their vow.
KATHARINE (V.O.)
The Wright Flyer began as mere
fragments: wood, metal, fabric— found
in any American home.
Combined with dreams, imagination,
strength, and courage, it transformed
into something extraordinary.
People often wonder how our family
achieved heavier-than-air flight.
Ultimately, it’s simple.
While others fell short, my brothers
succeeded when they found the perfect
balance of lift, control, and forward
movement.
The same applies to life itself— when
any one element is absent, we crash.
But when we strike the right balance,
we truly soar, overcoming any
obstacle.
SUPER:
“In 1928, the Wright Flyer was shipped
overseas to London’s Science Museum,
where it was displayed for nearly two
decades.
At age 76, Orville Wright died
peacefully at Hawthorn Hill while
fixing the front door knob.
As his final request, the Flyer
returned to the U.S., where it is now
in the Smithsonian Air and Space
Museum, proudly bearing the title:
“The world’s first power-driven,
heavier-than-air machine, invented and
built by Wilbur and Orville Wright.”
Their legacy soars today.”
INT. NATIONAL AIR AND SPACE MUSEUM (WASHINGTON, D.C.) - DAY
The Wright Flyer hangs majestically in a large, formal
exhibition gallery, filled with on-lookers of every walk of

Orv's shoes, preserved on a mannequin, stretch from the craft

Within the gallery, Katharine’s display highlighting her
journey shines brightly next to the Wright Flyer. Her persona
as a professor, media darling, and managing her brothers
