SUPER: OVER THE PHILIPPINE SEA
INT. ORION AIR FLIGHT 702 - COCKPIT - NIGHT
Muted instrument light washes over three faces.
CAPTAIN DANIEL MERCER, 52, experienced and composed, occupies
the left seat. A man more comfortable managing an aircraft
than the people waiting for him at home.
FIRST OFFICER EVAN COLE, 38, polished and precise, sits
beside him.
Behind them, ADRIAN VOSS, 41, an Orion Air systems engineer,
studies a maintenance tablet. His attention keeps drifting
toward the communications panel.
DANIEL
Weather ahead?
EVAN
Clear for four hundred miles.
DANIEL
Almost disappointing.
EVAN
I could find us a storm.
DANIEL
Save it for the return flight.
Daniel glances at the cockpit clock.
DANIEL (CONT’D)
How long until Tokyo?
EVAN
Four hours, twelve minutes.
DANIEL
Long enough for my son to decide
this trip was a mistake.
EVAN
He’s the one in business class?
DANIEL
His mother thought a week together
might remind him he has a father.
EVAN
And what did he think?
DANIEL
He brought headphones.
Evan smiles.
Daniel looks back at Adrian.
DANIEL (CONT’D)
Anything troubling you?
Adrian’s tablet displays a maintenance schematic for the
aircraft’s communications and surveillance systems.
ADRIAN
Nothing that can’t wait until
Tokyo.
DANIEL
That’s what engineers say before
something catches fire.
ADRIAN
Pilots break airplanes. Engineers
explain why.
EVAN
He may have you there.
DANIEL
You two rehearse that?
ADRIAN
First time we’ve met.
A fraction too quickly.
Daniel notices.
DANIEL
Then I’m surrounded by natural
talent.
Daniel returns to the instruments.
Adrian’s tablet VIBRATES once.
A message appears:
WAIT FOR THE HANDOFF.
Adrian immediately clears it.
He looks toward Evan.
Evan never turns, but one finger taps twice against the
throttle quadrant.
Adrian understands.
He stares through the windshield.
Nothing ahead but darkness.
INT. FLIGHT 702 - BUSINESS CLASS - NIGHT
Most passengers sleep beneath blankets or stare at dimmed
screens.
A FLIGHT ATTENDANT checks seat belts and collects glasses.
ELI MERCER, 15, sits beside a window, headphones around his
neck.
On his phone: a photograph of Eli with Daniel and his mother,
CLAIRE MERCER. Daniel wears his uniform. Claire and Eli are
dressed for a family dinner.
Daniel is looking at his watch.
A message from Claire:
HAVE FUN WITH YOUR FATHER. GIVE HIM A CHANCE. LOVE YOU BOTH.
Eli types:
HE’S WORKING. SAME AS ALWAYS.
He hesitates.
Deletes it.
Types:
LOVE YOU TOO.
He presses SEND.
The message remains pending.
No signal.
The ELDERLY BUSINESSMAN beside him sleeps with his mouth
open.
Eli opens a text thread with Daniel.
The most recent message, sent before takeoff:
COCKPIT’S BUSY. WE’LL TALK WHEN WE LAND.
Eli locks the phone.
He looks toward the cockpit door.

EVAN
We didn’t have to.
Adrian pulls free and begins shutting down selected systems.

ADRIAN
No one needs to be hurt.

EVAN
Then give him a reason to survive

Evan strikes Daniel across the face with the pistol.

Daniel emerges.
Eli sees him.
ELI
Dad!
He pushes through the crowd.
Samir grabs him.
DANIEL
Don’t hurt him! He’s my son!
Khalid raises a hand.
KHALID
Allow them one moment.
Samir releases Eli.
He runs into Daniel’s arms.
ELI
I thought you were dead.
DANIEL
I’m here.
Daniel checks him for injuries.

DANIEL
It doesn’t matter.
ELI
It matters to me.
Daniel looks at the son who believed he never made time for
him.
DANIEL
You were right.
ELI
About what?
DANIEL
I should have spent less time in
cockpits and more time listening to you.
ELI
Dad—
DANIEL
I need you to hear this now.
He grips Eli’s shoulders.
DANIEL (CONT’D)
There has never been a flight, a

Daniel pulls him close.

Samir drags Eli away.
ELI

A fearful murmur spreads through the crowd.
DANIEL
Families stay together.
KHALID
That is no longer your decision.
DANIEL
You said they were hostages.
KHALID
Mr. Voss said that.
Adrian absorbs the distinction.
Guards tear families apart.
A YOUNG FATHER holds his daughter tightly.
YOUNG FATHER

A guard rips her away and strikes him down.
Daniel steps forward.
DANIEL
Stop this!
Evan blocks him.
ADRIAN
Why separate them?
KHALID
Security.
ADRIAN
For negotiations?
KHALID
You remain devoted to that word.
ADRIAN
That was the purpose of taking the
aircraft.
KHALID
That was the purpose you were
given.
Across the runway, Eli is pulled away.
ELI
Dad!
DANIEL
Eli!
Daniel struggles against the guards.
DANIEL (CONT’D)

KHALID
The boy goes with the children.
DANIEL
He’s fifteen.
KHALID
Then he will adapt.
Eli disappears into the crowd.
Daniel turns on Adrian.
DANIEL
You told me no one would be hurt.
Adrian has no answer.
DANIEL (CONT’D)
Look at what you did.
Khalid steps between them.
KHALID
Captain Mercer, join the men.
DANIEL
Where are you taking them?
KHALID
Temporary housing.
Daniel sees the waiting trucks.
Beyond the floodlights, an excavator sits beside a long
trench.
His expression changes.
DANIEL
Adrian.
Adrian sees it too.
DANIEL (CONT’D)
You need to stop this.
KHALID
Mr. Voss has completed his

Eli shakes his head.
Daniel nods firmly.
Go.

CLAIRE
Government, airline or attorney?
MAYA
None of them anymore.
Claire starts closing the door.
MAYA (CONT’D)
I worked on the Flight 702

CLAIRE
Then you already took everything
you needed from us.
MAYA
Not everything.
Claire stops.
MAYA (CONT’D)
I don’t believe your husband

Three years ago, I believed the

Everyone did.

The Hidden Airfield
INT. CLAIRE MERCER’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY
Maya places radar plots across the coffee table.
Claire remains standing.
MAYA
This was the final transponder
position.
She points to a track continuing southeast.
MAYA (CONT’D)
It moved at a constant velocity and
heading for twenty-two minutes.
CLAIRE
That sounds like an airplane.
MAYA
It sounds like a computer
describing one.
Maya places another plot beside it.
A faint track angles southwest.
MAYA (CONT’D)
These were intermittent primary
returns.
CLAIRE
From Flight 702?
MAYA
I argued they were weather.
CLAIRE
Why?
MAYA
Because the transponder track
looked
cleaner.
CLAIRE
And because the clean answer was
easier.
Maya accepts that.
MAYA
I directed the first search assets
southeast.
CLAIRE
Away from my family.
MAYA
Yes.
CLAIRE
How many days did that cost?
MAYA
At least four.
Claire turns away.
MAYA (CONT’D)
By the time I challenged the data,
the search had committed ships, aircraft and satellites to
the wrong corridor.
CLAIRE
And Orion blamed Daniel.
MAYA
They needed a human explanation for
an impossible event.
CLAIRE
So they chose the dead pilot.
MAYA
I recommended against naming him as
the probable cause.
CLAIRE
After directing everyone the wrong
way.
Maya absorbs the blow.
MAYA
Yes.
She opens her document case and removes satellite
photographs.
An abandoned mountain airfield.
A narrow runway.
A hangar built into rock.
MAYA (CONT’D)
This installation showed activity
two weeks after the disappearance.
CLAIRE
Two weeks?
MAYA
Fuel trucks. Cargo vehicles. A
temporary communications array.
CLAIRE
Where is it?
MAYA
The coordinates were stripped
before the files reached me.
CLAIRE
By whom?
MAYA
Someone with access above the
investigation team.
CLAIRE
You think someone helped them.
MAYA
I think someone made certain we
stopped looking.
Claire studies the satellite image.
CLAIRE
Why bring this to me now?
Maya removes another document.
A procurement record.
MAYA
Because a shell company connected
to that region has spent three years buying components
compatible with Flight 702.
Claire reads:
HYDRAULIC SEALS.
AVIATION TIRES.
PRESSURIZATION VALVES.
ENGINE LUBRICANTS.
MAYA
Small purchases. Different
countries. Different companies.
CLAIRE
Enough to maintain an airplane?
MAYA
Enough to maintain one specific
airplane if someone knew exactly what it needed.
Claire looks at Eli’s photograph.
CLAIRE
Then find the coordinates.
MAYA
I have been trying.
CLAIRE
Try as though your son is there.
Maya holds her gaze.

Daniel’s damaged pilot wings.
A hand-drawn map of the compound.
The coded survivor list.
A radio bypass.
A miniature transmitter.
Adrian checks the device.
Its indicator flashes weakly.
He removes the cover.
A wire has been cut.
Adrian freezes.

ELI

ADRIAN
Once we are airborne, the real
transmitter sends the compound’s coordinates and every name
on your list.
ELI
And we wait for someone to rescue
us?
ADRIAN
Yes.
ELI
What if no one comes?
ADRIAN
Then you keep everyone alive as
long as possible.
ELI
You promised my father you would
protect me.
ADRIAN
I am trying.
ELI
By leaving?
ADRIAN
By making certain these people can
never disappear again.
Eli looks at the hidden compartment.
ELI

ADRIAN
No.
ELI
I know the modifications. I know
the wiring.
ADRIAN
You would be another hostage aboard

ELI (CONT’D)
The marks show which building

ADRIAN
How did you get this?
ELI
People remember.

ELI (CONT’D)
Some children don’t know their real
names anymore.
Adrian places the page inside the compartment.

ELI
You already told me that.
ADRIAN
I’m telling you now for myself.
Footsteps approach outside.
Adrian closes the compartment.
ELI
Will the bomb detonate if the plane
crashes?
ADRIAN
A nuclear detonation requires a
precise firing sequence.
ELI
That isn’t what I asked.
ADRIAN
Impact could scatter radioactive
material. It could trigger the conventional explosives.
ELI
But not a nuclear blast.
ADRIAN
Not unless the device is fully
armed.
ELI
Can you stop it from arming?
ADRIAN
I can interrupt one of the
environmental signals.
ELI
Which one?
ADRIAN
Altitude.
Eli understands.
ELI
If the system never believes the
aircraft reached the proper height—
ADRIAN
The final arming sequence should
not
begin.
ELI
Should not.
ADRIAN
Nothing about this comes with a
guarantee.
The cockpit door opens.
Nadir stands there.
NADIR

His eyes move from Adrian to Eli.
NADIR (CONT’D)

ELI

Nadir steps closer.
NADIR

maintenance records.
NADIR
Leave us.
Eli looks at Adrian.
ADRIAN
Go.
Eli exits.
Nadir watches him disappear.
NADIR
You care for him.
ADRIAN
I owe him.
NADIR
Debt is another form of attachment.
ADRIAN
And belief is another form of
obedience.
NADIR
You believe redemption remains
possible.
ADRIAN
No.
Nadir waits.
ADRIAN (CONT’D)
I believe consequences remain
possible.
NADIR

ADRIAN
For all of us.
Nadir glances toward the maintenance console.
NADIR

ADRIAN
Then why leave it?
NADIR
To see what you would do.
ADRIAN

NADIR
You repaired it too quickly.
Adrian says nothing.
NADIR (CONT’D)
Which means it was never your only
plan.
He steps closer.
