Golden Gate Bridge twinkles on horizon. A lively gathering
of DETECTIVES and WIVES. SERVERS clear plates.
DILLON JAMES (30s) enters back of room, motions to Alba at
head table. She stands, TAPS GLASS. The room hushes.
GEORGE
Short and sweet, please.
ALBA
You heard her and she's the boss...
until tomorrow. So, what can I say
that hasn't been said about our
inimitable Captain?
EVERYONE smiles, CHEERS.
ALBA (CONT'D)
She's been our leader and mentor
since time immemorial...
CROWD LAUGHS.
ALBA (CONT'D)
No, seriously, she only looks ancient
because she's been carrying the weight
of our department. Give me a year,
I'll look just as haggard.
George SPUTTERS water.
ALBA (CONT'D)
And so it is with great joy that we
send her on her way never to be heard
from or seen again, we hope. Not
because we don't love her but because
she's found the Italian count she so
richly deserves and is living la
dolce vita in some fabulous vineyard.
And when you do, please invite us to
the wedding. We'll drink all the
wine you won't. Join me in raising
a toast to the best of the best, the
one and only George St. George.
GUESTS raise their glasses, WHISTLES, CHEERS.
EVERYONE
Speech. Speech.
George stands. Dillon signals urgency to Alba, leaves.
GEORGE
If I'm the best it's only because
I'm backed by the best. I'm going
to miss each and every one of you,
well almost.
Alba gets up, ducks her way toward door.
GEORGE (CONT'D)
And there she goes... The bane of my
existence, always smarter, keener,
more focused than I've ever been
capable of. You have a high standard
to live up to and I know you are all
up to the task.
HALLWAY
Dillon walks ahead. Alba holds back, tries to make eye contact
with Carmen, but Carmen has her eyes on George.

GEORGE (CONT'D)
So, thank you for your dedication,
your tenacity, and your persistence
in bringing justice to those who
can't defend themselves.
George raises her glass.
CARMEN

You can't toast with water.
Carmen hands George glass of champagne.
GEORGE
Wow, all these years I've been doing
it wrong. To our beloved city of
San Francisco and the people we serve.
Everyone stands, CLINKS glasses.
George sips champagne. Bubbles go up her nose. She SNORTS,
shares an embarrassed look with Carmen. They both GIGGLE.

Alba meanders, looking at the art, stops at set of miniature

"Harley Chapin's depictions of the nine types of vaginas are
inspired by the Xandarian Communion, a cult that claimed sexual
enlightenment could be attained using ancient secrets of the
Cherokees, Aztecs and Mayans."
Carmen returns.
ALBA
What's this cult?
CARMEN
It had retreats to teach you how to
maximize your sexual pleasure, then
the leader was proclaimed a charlatan
so it was branded a cult. But, he's
dead now.
(off Alba's look)
Harley can tell you all... if she

Carmen hurries to welcome a MAN (20s) whose style oozes money.

Transformed from the previous night, JJ is the epitome of
masculine sexuality, confidence, and charm.
ALBA
What do you think of there being
nine definitions of female genitalia?
JJ SLOAN
There are, of course, nine
corresponding penises... ram, deer,
elk, Pitbull, for example...
JJ draws close to Alba, his voice lowers.
JJ SLOAN (CONT'D)
Horse, pony, dancing.
ALBA
And into which category do you fit,

Kit works at a computer.

ALBA
Healthy habits didn't do much for
Haley.
INT. SLOAN MANSION - NIGHT
O.S. RAIN, LIGHTNING, THUNDER SOUND EFFECTS. A MEAT LOAF
impersonator plays PIANO. Big screens show Rocky Horror
Picture Show starting.
Mila, as Columbia in gold jacket and top hat, greets GUESTS
with a tray of champagne.
Carmen, pink dress and blue cardigan, arrives with George in
Carhartt jacket and rimmed specs, and Dillon as Riff Raff.
CARMEN
I've no idea how you pulled that
together so quickly.
DILLON
Blame my brother. A die-hard Rocky
Horror fan.
JJ, with white rose as a playful prop, mingles with Guests.
He spots Carmen, struts over, tosses rose on a SERVER's tray.
JJ SLOAN
Well, dammit, Janet, nice of you to
stop by.
JJ air kisses Carmen, turns to George.
JJ SLOAN (CONT'D)
My dear Brad, you look positively
verklempt. But, don't worry, the
candyman already made his delivery,
if you catch my drift.
George shoots Dillon a look. He plays his character, deflects.
DILLON
It's astounding. Time is fleeting.
JJ SLOAN
And madness takes its toll. How
utterly delicious.
DILLON
Let's do the time warp again.
JJ SLOAN
Not so fast, Riff Raff. First, my
intro. Meanwhile, we have everything
you could possibly want to make you
shiver with anticip-pation. Do enjoy.
Carmen and Dillon snag champagne from Mila, go to buffet table.
George looks for Server on whose tray JJ dumped the rose.
KITCHEN
A COOK (30s) Latina, plates hors d'oeuvres. George snoops

The rose is doused in green sauce. She removes it by the
stem, sniffs, drops it back in trash.
COOK
The chimichurri wasn't up to snuff.
I had start from scratch.
The Cook proffers crostini as she heads out the door. George
pops one in her mouth, grabs a water from fridge, returns to
LIVING ROOM
George joins Dillon and Carmen.
CARMEN
Alba doesn't know what she's missing.
GEORGE
Life can't all be fun and games.
CARMEN
Oh no.
GEORGE
I guess I'll find out now that I'm
virtually retired.
CARMEN
No, I mean, look.
George turns to see Chelsea dressed as Frank-n-Furter. Carmen
SCREAMS, faints, winks at George. JJ flounces over to Carmen.
JJ SLOAN
(plays Frank-n-Furter)
How d'you do? I see you've met my
faithful handyman. He's just a little
brought down because when you knocked
he thought you were the candy man.
JJ pivots to face his audience, sees Chelsea. His smile fades.
JJ SLOAN (CONT'D)
(singing)
"Don't get strung out by the way
that I look. Don't judge a book by
its cover."
JJ struts over to Chelsea, flicks fur in her face a little
too hard, swivels around, but turns an ankle, stumbles.
Chelsea SNIGGERS. Guests TITTER. Anger flashes on JJ's face.
JJ SLOAN (CONT'D)
(singing)
"I'm not much of a man by the light
of day. But by night I'm one hell
of a lover."
(stops singing)
Everyone, join in.
JJ storms out, furious.
GUESTS
(singing)
"I'm just a sweet transvestite from
Transexual, Transylvania, ha."
Chelsea steps in as Frank-n-Furter, SINGS to Carmen and George.
CHELSEA
(singing)
"Let me show you around, maybe play
you a sound. You look like you're
both pretty groovy. Or if you want
something visual that's not too
abysmal, we could take in an old
Steve Reeves movie."

JJ watches Chelsea writhe on floor, GASP for air.

Alba and Dillon walk in. Kit stands at Harley's wall, points.
KIT
Ma'am. Harley Chapin was a workshop
coordinator. She kept records of
attendees, dates, locations, social
security numbers. Not everyone was
being blackmailed. It seems she
waited until they were in positions
that if exposed would cause them
embarrassment.
ALBA
And the dead women?
KIT
June 2011, Camilla Sanchez attended
a workshop in New York. She died in
August. A month later, Valentina
Flores was at a Nantucket workshop.
She died in December. Spring 2012,
Ximena Garcia was at a workshop in
Miami. She died soon thereafter.
ALBA
Is there someone who attended all
three workshops?
KIT
Jovi Spencer. I did the math. Over
the years, she's paid Chapin hundreds
of thousands of dollars.
ALBA
She may be incapacitated now, but
could she have killed these women?
Expedite their record checks.
KIT
Already did, Ma'am.

Am I wrong, or are all these women
Latina?

Feel free to have him here any time.
MILA
Carmen called looking for you. She
said delivery guys damaged the gallery
laptop. She wants to know if she
should get it repaired or-
JJ SLOAN
How charmingly frugal. Tell her to
come over. Make it for eight and
we'll have dinner. I won't take no
for an answer.

Unraveling the Poisonous Truth
INT. POLICE PRECINCT - WAR ROOM - AFTERNOON
Alba walks in to find Kit with DR. FLOWER (50s), a bespectacled
academic.
KIT
I was just about to call you. Meet
Dr. Flower, head of Plant and
Microbiology at UC Berkeley.
Alba extends her hand to shake Dr. Flower's hand.
ALBA
Alba Cross. Nice to meet you. Dr.
Flower?
DR. FLOWER
It seems my path was predestined.
ALBA
Mine too after a filthy-rich drunk
was acquitted of running my father
off the road.
DR. FLOWER
Sorry to hear that.
ALBA
It destroyed my mother and devastated
my father in every possible way. I
digress, any luck with our rose?
DR. FLOWER
It's a David Austin English rose.
Its petals are very distinct.
ALBA
Is it rare?
DR. FLOWER
No, but it's not ubiquitous either.
ALBA
I have photographs of other flowers.
Can you tell me if they're poisonous?
DR. FLOWER
Without a doubt.
Alba hands her phone to Kit, who connects it to a computer.
ALBA
Load the flower pics then get whatever
we can on JJ Sloan. He mentioned
FastTrak. Let's see his comings and
goings. And get his medical records
while you're at it. Do whatever we
can to cut through the red tape.
Dr. Flower sits by Kit while photos load. Alba goes to the
white board, writes: David Austin English next to WHITE ROSE.
ALBA (CONT'D)
Say, Doc.
(points to K-IM-ER)
Does this mean anything to you?
DR. FLOWER
Well, if you add an A and-
Dr. Flower goes to board, changes K to CH.
DR. FLOWER (CONT'D)
You'd have-
She writes: CHIMERA.
DR. FLOWER (CONT'D)
It's a genetic term. For humans it
means a person with cells from two
different sources.
ALBA
You mean they have two types of DNA?
DR. FLOWER
It's extremely rare, but yes.
ALBA
Never mind cutting red tape, Kit,
get me a warrant for JJ Sloan's
medical records.
DR. FLOWER
At a glance, it appears all your
flowers are poisonous.

JJ SLOAN

a second-rate cop who doesn't
absolutely adore her.
Mila cuts lemon peel into twists, stops, looks at JJ.
MILA (CONT'D)
Isn't that what we all deserve?

all his messages.

CARMEN
She's absorbed with finding a killer,
but doesn't have a clue to go on.
JJ turns away to melt butter and hide his glee.
CARMEN (CONT'D)
My focus is our next show and ensuring
it's another massive hit.
JJ SLOAN
All those exaggerated phalluses.
Are you sure you can handle it?
CARMEN
They're not my taste, but for the
sake of art I'll manage. In the
real world, I care about a man's
soul and his touch on my skin.
Carmen slides her hand down JJ's back. JJ SHIVERS.
JJ SLOAN
I never said it aloud before, but
I'm quite partial to luscious Latinas.

Retrieves a miniature bottle from a drawer, returns to
KITCHEN
JJ pours martinis, skips the lemon, slips a drop from miniature
bottle into cocktail he hands Carmen.
CARMEN
Really, JJ, she's just jealous. All
her money can't make her young and
beautiful, like you and I.
JJ raises his martini in a toast. Carmen does likewise.
MILA
Carmen, you're missing the twist.
Mila takes martini from Carmen, shoots her a look of alarm,
turns, lets it slip from her hand. It CRASHES on floor.

O.S. front door CHIMES. Mila looks at Carmen. Carmen at JJ.

JJ SLOAN
Well, aren't you a busy little sleuth.
Alba pulls her gun, aims at JJ.
ALBA
Put the glass down.
JJ throws the martini toward Alba's face. She ducks. Glass
SMASHES. JJ grabs a knife, holds blade to Carmen's throat.
Alba doesn't hesitate, SHOOTS his shoulder.
He drops the knife, grips Carmen's throat with his good hand.
Carmen elbows his ribs, escapes his grasp, rushes to Alba who
steps in front of Carmen.
Enraged, JJ rushes toward Alba. She sidesteps, shoots him in
the thigh. JJ crumbles, his face inches from the spilled
martini. JJ extends his tongue.
Alba grabs him by the hair, lifts his face off the floor.
ALBA (CONT'D)
You don't get off that easy.
(into her phone)
Feel free to join the party.
George and Dillon stride in.
ALBA (CONT'D)
Get this dick out of here. Make
sure he doesn't touch the liquid on
the floor.

JJ SLOAN
How very manly.
