Subtext Reps: Take one scene from your script and rewrite the dialogue so that every character says the opposite of what they actually mean. Also ban the words 'guilt,' 'miss,' 'sorry,' and 'love' from the scene. The meaning must come through action and implication.
Want-and-Obstacle Reps: For every scene you write, create a 'want-and-obstacle' map before you draft. Write one sentence for each character present: What do they want in this scene? What is the one concrete thing blocking them? Then make sure at least one character leaves the scene without getting what they want.
Scene-Function and Button Reps: Before writing a scene, write a single sentence stating its function in the script (e.g., 'This scene shows Steve and Milo bonding, which pays off in scene 20'). Then write the scene. Finally, write a 'button'—a final line, image, or beat that pays off a theme, a running gag, or the scene's central idea and creates a hook into the next scene.
