We Called Them Gods - Episode 3 - The Primigenial
Synopsis
In a world where humanity's origins are intertwined with extraterrestrial beings, 'We Called Them Gods - Episode 3 - The Primigenial' explores the delicate balance between intervention and natural evolution. The story begins in a futuristic compound where Kemp, a wise and seasoned observer, recounts the tale of Enki, Ninsaba, and Enlil—three alien beings tasked with guiding humanity's development during the Ice Age. As they observe a group of humans struggling to survive in the harsh conditions of the Accursed Mountains, Enki becomes increasingly frustrated with the rules that prevent them from directly helping the humans. He believes that the species has untapped potential and that their extinction is imminent unless they intervene.
The narrative shifts back 30,000 years to the Ice Age, where Enki, Ninsaba, and Enlil are disguised among the humans. They witness the despair and apathy of the migrating tribes, leading Enki to propose a radical plan to genetically modify the humans to enhance their survival instincts and cognitive abilities. Ninsaba, the pragmatic leader, initially resists the idea, emphasizing the importance of struggle in learning and growth. However, after a heartfelt discussion, she recognizes the urgency of the situation and agrees to support Enki's plan.
As Enki prepares to execute his plan, he faces opposition from his brother Enlil, who is torn between loyalty to their father and the desire to save the humans. Enki's determination leads him to seek the help of Utu, an organic quantum AI, who can deliver the necessary modifications to the humans. The stakes rise as Enki must navigate the complexities of familial loyalty, ethical dilemmas, and the potential consequences of their actions.
In a climactic moment, Enki activates three beacons that unleash Utu's modifications upon the humans. The transformation is immediate and profound; the humans awaken from their apathy, displaying newfound energy, creativity, and intelligence. They begin to innovate, creating tools and engaging in complex social interactions, showcasing the potential that Enki believed they possessed.
However, the consequences of their actions are not without complications. The modifications lead to unexpected abilities among the humans, including telekinesis and heightened intelligence, which Enki and his allies must now manage. As the story unfolds, the narrative explores themes of responsibility, the ethics of intervention, and the nature of humanity itself. Kemp concludes the tale, revealing that without Enki's bold actions, humanity as we know it would not exist, setting the stage for future conflicts and developments in their ongoing saga.

Character Enki
Description Enki’s character arc is inconsistent. He is a cunning and manipulative strategist, but he is also depicted as a naive and emotional idealist at times, particularly when it comes to the human species. This inconsistency makes it difficult to understand his motivations and behavior, and it ultimately undermines his character development.
( Scene 2 Scene 3 Scene 8 Scene 9 Scene 10 ) -
Character Ninsaba
Description Ninsaba's character appears inconsistent. She is portrayed as a strong and decisive leader, but she also displays a sense of vulnerability and emotional conflict. This inconsistency may confuse audiences, as it's unclear how her character reacts to Enki's actions and decisions.
( Scene 2 Scene 3 Scene 10 ) -
Character Dr. Mallory
Description Dr. Mallory's character is inconsistent and confusing. He is depicted as a skilled engineer, but he also appears to be clueless and reckless in his handling of the singularity. This inconsistency makes it difficult to take him seriously as a scientist and undermines the credibility of the plot.
( Scene 12 )
-
Description The humans’ lack of emotional response to the death of their own, particularly the mother dropping her baby in the snow, feels forced and contradicts the natural behavior of humans, particularly in such a dire situation. This lack of emotion and apathy in the humans seems designed to highlight their perceived weakness and need for intervention, but it feels artificial and out of place in the story.
( Scene 2 Scene 3 ) -
Description The narrative of the story's events unfolding 30,000 years in the past then jumping to the present is unclear and might confuse the audience. The screenplay needs to clearly establish the timeline and relationship between past events and the present.
( Scene 8 Scene 9 Scene 10 Scene 11 )
-
Description The screenplay doesn't adequately explain why the humans are able to understand Enki when he speaks in a language they don't recognize. This lack of explanation creates a plot hole that weakens the believability of the story.
( Scene 5 ) -
Description The screenplay doesn't explain how Enki is able to communicate with the humans in their rudimentary language after speaking in a language they don’t recognize, nor how he is able to speak to them in a way that makes sense after communicating with Utu, who presumably speaks in a different language. This lack of explanation creates a plot hole and weakens the believability of the story.
( Scene 8 Scene 10 ) -
Description The screenplay doesn't explain how the singularity is created or its properties. The sudden appearance of a mini black hole in the lab feels too convenient and lacks a believable scientific foundation.
( Scene 12 )
-
Description The dialogue about eating Tanosh seems unnatural and out of place. It feels like a forced attempt to create a lighthearted moment and doesn't contribute to the overall story or character development.
( Scene 3 ) -
Description The dialogue about steroids feels out of place and jarring in the context of the story. It comes across as a forced attempt to inject humor into the narrative and doesn't flow organically with the overall tone.
( Scene 11 ) -
Description Dr. Mallory’s dialogue about time and relativity is incorrect and nonsensical. His explanations lack scientific accuracy and appear to be a mishmash of unrelated scientific terms. This incorrect scientific information undermines the credibility of the story and the character of Dr. Mallory.
( Scene 12 )
-
Element Utu’s repetitive lines
( Scene 5 Scene 8 Scene 10 Scene 12 )
Suggestion Streamline Utu’s dialogue. Remove redundant phrases like “I may or may not have used those words” as it adds no value to the narrative and becomes tedious. -
Element The repetition of “another story for another time.”
( Scene 1 Scene 7 Scene 11 )
Suggestion Reduce or eliminate this repetitive phrase. It breaks the flow of the narrative and makes the story seem less impactful.

Initially, he is haunted by his wife's death and struggles with the moral implications of his actions. As the story progresses, he confronts his grief and learns to balance his responsibilities with the need for personal closure. By the climax, Kemp's character arc culminates in a moment of self-acceptance, where he uses his knowledge and experience to make a pivotal decision that not only impacts the mission but also allows him to honor Ninsaba's memory. In the end, Kemp emerges as a more integrated individual, having reconciled his past with his present. | Kemp's character arc is compelling, but it risks becoming predictable if not handled with nuance. While his journey from grief to acceptance is relatable, the screenplay should ensure that his transformation feels earned and not rushed. The balance between his intellectual depth and emotional struggles needs to be maintained throughout the narrative to avoid reducing him to a mere archetype of the 'wise mentor' who ultimately finds peace. | To improve Kemp's character arc, consider incorporating more dynamic interactions with other characters that challenge his beliefs and force him to confront his past in unexpected ways. Introducing a subplot that directly ties his knowledge to the mission's stakes could heighten the tension and make his eventual acceptance more impactful. Additionally, moments of vulnerability should be interspersed with his dry humor to create a more rounded character. Finally, ensure that his decisions are influenced by both his intellect and emotional growth, allowing for a more organic evolution that resonates with the audience. |
| Jack | Throughout the screenplay, Jack undergoes a significant transformation. Initially, he is skeptical and grounded, often challenging Kemp's revelations. As the story progresses, he becomes more open-minded and willing to embrace the mystical elements of the narrative. This shift is catalyzed by his interactions with other characters and the experiences he encounters, leading him to a deeper understanding of the world and his place within it. By the end of the feature, Jack emerges as a more enlightened individual, having reconciled his skepticism with a newfound appreciation for the mysteries of life. | While Jack's character arc is compelling, it may benefit from more defined moments of conflict and resolution. His initial skepticism is a strong foundation, but the transition to open-mindedness could be more pronounced. The screenplay should ensure that Jack faces challenges that test his beliefs, allowing for a more dynamic evolution. Additionally, his humor, while engaging, should not overshadow the seriousness of the themes explored in the narrative. | To improve Jack's character arc, consider incorporating specific events that challenge his skepticism more directly, such as a personal experience that forces him to confront his beliefs. This could be a moment of crisis or revelation that highlights the stakes of his journey. Additionally, allow for moments of vulnerability where Jack's naivety is tested, leading to growth. Finally, ensure that his humor complements rather than detracts from the emotional weight of the story, perhaps by using it as a coping mechanism during serious moments. |
| Ninsaba | Ninsaba begins as a strong, authoritative leader focused on practicality and adherence to rules. As the story progresses, her skepticism and caution are challenged by the moral dilemmas faced by the group. Through her interactions with Enki and the unfolding events, she grapples with her responsibilities and the ethics of their actions. Ultimately, she transforms from a rigid enforcer of rules to a more empathetic and flexible leader who recognizes the need for compassion and intervention. By the end of the feature, Ninsaba emerges as a balanced figure who understands the importance of both order and moral responsibility, leading her group with a newfound sense of purpose and empathy. | While Ninsaba's character arc is compelling, it may benefit from deeper emotional exploration. Her transformation from a rule-bound leader to a more empathetic figure could be more pronounced with specific moments that challenge her beliefs. Additionally, her internal conflicts could be more vividly portrayed to enhance audience connection. The arc could also risk feeling predictable if not given unique challenges that force her to confront her values in unexpected ways. | To improve Ninsaba's character arc, consider incorporating pivotal moments that force her to confront her beliefs directly, such as a personal loss or a critical decision that impacts her view on intervention. Adding flashbacks or internal monologues could provide insight into her past experiences that shape her current mindset. Additionally, introducing a rival character who embodies the opposite of her values could create tension and highlight her growth. Finally, ensure that her transformation is gradual and nuanced, allowing the audience to witness her struggles and triumphs in a relatable manner. |
| Enki | Enki's character arc follows his transformation from a detached observer to an active participant in humanity's struggle. Initially, he is conflicted about intervening, torn between his desire to help and the constraints of his role. As he witnesses the consequences of inaction, he becomes increasingly driven by a sense of urgency, leading him to challenge the status quo and take risks. This journey culminates in a pivotal moment where he must choose between adhering to the rules or taking a drastic action that could alter the course of humanity. By the end of the feature, Enki emerges as a more integrated being, having reconciled his compassion with his strategic mindset, ultimately finding a way to guide humanity without compromising his principles. | While Enki's character arc is compelling, it risks becoming overly complex and potentially confusing for the audience. The oscillation between empathy and manipulation may dilute his motivations, making it difficult for viewers to fully grasp his intentions. Additionally, the character's strategic nature could overshadow his emotional depth, leading to a portrayal that feels more like a chess player than a relatable character. The arc could benefit from clearer stakes and more defined moments of internal conflict that highlight his emotional journey. | To improve Enki's character arc, consider simplifying his motivations by establishing a clear emotional anchor that drives his actions throughout the feature. Introduce specific moments of vulnerability that allow the audience to connect with his internal struggles, making his eventual decisions more impactful. Additionally, create distinct turning points that emphasize his growth, such as a moment of failure that forces him to confront the consequences of his manipulative tactics. This will help balance his strategic nature with his emotional depth, ultimately leading to a more relatable and engaging character. |
| Enlil | Enlil begins as a decisive and proactive leader, focused on the immediate survival of the group. As the story unfolds, he faces moral dilemmas that challenge his beliefs about genetic modification and the implications of Enki's plans. His skepticism creates tension, leading him to question his role and responsibilities. Throughout the screenplay, Enlil evolves from a straightforward protector to a more nuanced character who balances duty with ethical considerations. By the end, he learns to embrace his vulnerabilities and the complexities of leadership, ultimately finding a way to support his brother while advocating for a more cautious approach to their plans. | While Enlil's character arc is compelling, it risks becoming too predictable as he transitions from a stoic leader to a conflicted individual. The internal struggle between loyalty and ethical concerns is a strong foundation, but it could benefit from more dynamic interactions with other characters to highlight his growth. Additionally, the resolution of his arc may feel rushed if not given enough screen time to explore the nuances of his transformation. | To improve Enlil's character arc, consider incorporating more moments of vulnerability that allow him to express his doubts and fears openly, perhaps through conversations with other characters or reflective monologues. Introduce scenarios where his decisions have immediate consequences, forcing him to confront the impact of his choices on the group. This could deepen his internal conflict and make his eventual acceptance of a more balanced approach feel earned. Additionally, explore his relationships with other characters, particularly Enki, to create more tension and opportunities for growth. This could involve flashbacks to their childhood or moments that reveal the depth of their bond, enhancing the emotional stakes of Enlil's journey. |

Emotional Analysis
Emotional Variety
Critique
- The screenplay exhibits a range of emotions, but certain scenes feel repetitive in their focus on despair and tension, particularly in scenes 2 and 4, which both emphasize the bleakness of humanity's situation without introducing contrasting emotions.
- Scenes like 1 and 3 provide moments of hope and joy, but these are often overshadowed by the heavier themes, leading to an emotional imbalance that could disengage the audience.
- The emotional tone tends to oscillate between sadness and tension, with less exploration of lighter or more uplifting emotions, which could enhance audience engagement.
Suggestions
- Incorporate moments of levity or humor in scenes that are heavily dramatic, such as introducing a light-hearted interaction between Kemp and Jack in scene 4 to break the tension.
- Add scenes that explore themes of resilience or community among the humans, particularly in scenes 2 and 3, to provide a counterbalance to the prevailing despair.
Emotional Intensity Distribution
Critique
- The emotional intensity peaks in scenes 5 and 8, where significant decisions are made, but there are valleys in intensity in scenes like 9 and 11, which may lead to emotional fatigue.
- Scenes 6 and 10 have high suspense but lack sufficient emotional payoff, leaving the audience in a state of anticipation without resolution.
- The distribution of emotional intensity can feel uneven, with some scenes feeling overly intense while others lack sufficient engagement.
Suggestions
- Balance the emotional intensity by reducing the stakes in scenes that are overly tense, such as scene 6, and allowing for quieter moments that build character relationships.
- Increase the emotional stakes in scenes like 9 and 11 by introducing more personal stakes for the characters, enhancing the audience's investment in their journeys.
Empathy For Characters
Critique
- Empathy for Kemp is strong in scenes 1 and 4 due to his personal backstory, but other characters, like Enlil and Ninsaba, lack depth in their emotional arcs, making it harder for the audience to connect with them.
- Scenes 2 and 3 provide glimpses into the struggles of the humans, but the emotional connection could be deepened by exploring their individual stories.
- The emotional stakes for Jack are less pronounced, which may hinder audience empathy for his character.
Suggestions
- Enhance empathy for Enlil and Ninsaba by adding backstory or emotional conflict in scenes 2 and 8, allowing the audience to understand their motivations and struggles.
- Incorporate more personal moments for Jack in scenes 9 and 11, such as reflections on his past or fears about the future, to deepen the audience's connection to his character.
Emotional Impact Of Key Scenes
Critique
- Key scenes like 5 and 10 have strong emotional impacts, but others, such as 6 and 9, feel underwhelming and lack the necessary emotional punch to resonate with the audience.
- The climactic moments in scenes 8 and 11 could be more impactful if they included heightened stakes or emotional revelations that resonate with the audience.
- The emotional weight of pivotal scenes is sometimes diluted by excessive exposition or dialogue that detracts from the emotional core.
Suggestions
- Restructure dialogue in scenes 6 and 9 to focus more on emotional stakes rather than exposition, allowing for a more visceral connection to the characters' experiences.
- Increase the stakes in scenes 8 and 11 by introducing a personal loss or a critical decision that forces characters to confront their fears, enhancing the emotional impact.
Complex Emotional Layers
Critique
- Many scenes, particularly 2 and 4, present emotions in a one-dimensional manner, primarily focusing on despair without exploring the complexities of hope or resilience.
- The use of sub-emotions is limited, with scenes often relying on primary emotions like sadness and tension, which can lead to a lack of depth in character experiences.
- Scenes like 3 and 10 could benefit from a richer emotional tapestry that includes feelings of nostalgia, regret, or joy alongside the dominant emotions.
Suggestions
- Introduce sub-emotions in scenes 2 and 4 by highlighting moments of resilience or community among the humans, allowing for a more nuanced emotional experience.
- Incorporate flashbacks or memories in scenes like 3 and 10 that evoke nostalgia or regret, deepening the emotional layers and providing context for the characters' current struggles.
Additional Critique
Character Development
Critiques
- Some characters, particularly Enlil and Ninsaba, lack sufficient development, making it difficult for the audience to empathize with their motivations and decisions.
- The emotional arcs of secondary characters are often overshadowed by the primary narrative, leading to a lack of connection with the audience.
- The screenplay could benefit from deeper exploration of character backstories to enhance emotional engagement.
Suggestions
- Develop Enlil and Ninsaba's backstories in scenes 2 and 8, providing insights into their motivations and emotional struggles to foster audience empathy.
- Introduce subplots that explore the emotional journeys of secondary characters, allowing the audience to connect with a broader range of experiences.
Pacing and Emotional Flow
Critiques
- The pacing of emotional beats can feel uneven, with some scenes dragging on while others rush through critical emotional moments.
- Scenes that are heavily focused on exposition can detract from emotional engagement, leading to a disjointed viewing experience.
- The emotional flow between scenes can be jarring, with abrupt shifts in tone that may confuse the audience.
Suggestions
- Adjust the pacing of exposition-heavy scenes, such as 9 and 12, to allow for more emotional reflection and character development.
- Create smoother transitions between scenes by incorporating thematic or emotional links that maintain the audience's emotional engagement throughout the narrative.

Scene Analysis
📊 Understanding Your Percentile Rankings
Your scene scores are compared against professional produced screenplays in our vault (The Matrix, Breaking Bad, etc.). The percentile shows where you rank compared to these films.
Example: A score of 8.5 in Dialogue might be 85th percentile (strong!), while the same 8.5 in Conflict might only be 50th percentile (needs work). The percentile tells you what your raw scores actually mean.
Hover over each axis on the radar chart to see what that category measures and why it matters.
Scenes are rated on many criteria. The goal isn't to try to maximize every number; it's to make you aware of what's happening in your scenes. You might have very good reasons to have character development but not advance the story, or have a scene without conflict. Obviously if your dialogue is really bad, you should probably look into that.
